Not being in the refinishing trade, can anyone recommend the correct grade of Farecla . Gel coat is 'hazy' with oxidation which wont come off with scrubbing and needs cutting I guess.

Some areas tho are just dull but polishing with 'mer' doesnt bring up that 'like new' shine.

tried putting 'farecla' into the search but lots of conflicting threads.

G10 used with a wet cloth if its really bad. If its not that bad go for G3 which is a lot finer. Finish with a good qwality polish

We use a middle route and standardise on G7, never found it a problem cleaning up a old hull.
One of the big boat builders used this one for polishing there plugs and moulds, thus giving me a limited choice at the time.

Hi Phil

If it just general Oxydisation you want to remove rather than scratches etc it would be far easier to use Oxalic acid you can buy it in cream based form from well stocked swindlery or you can go to your locak chemist advise them you know the rules on not drinking /inhaling the stull and rubber gloves and goggles of course!!! apply about a 10% solution to the Hull leave fo about 20 mins and rinse of repeat for for any streaking then rinse and polish!!!!

I think you will find this should be the other way around!
G3 cutting paste - comes in a tube.
G10 cleaner - comes in bottle.

Well! I knew it was summink like that. Just couldn't be bothered to go to the garage and look at the stuff I bunged on the shelf! Either way they'll both make it look shiney.............just might take a bit longer. Who said "doing it yerself" was easy!

Re: wrong way round surely?

I think you will find that G3 is more course that G10!

The G3 is a much thicker paste, G10 is a very fine liquid grade.

Its all a matter of how heavy the dirt on the gel is and how much gel you want to remove!!

Because thats what you are doing! every time you use these products you remove certain amounts of gel. The gel coat on any vessel is very thin to start with and if used to much will start to show through to the wicking of the glass fibre.

So if its just stubborn dirty streaks from the canvas cover that will not polish off, then use G10. and then polish. If the surface of the gel is really very dull and has oxidised badly, then use G3. But all these products remove a certain amount of gel coat so they should be used with care and not scrubbed on and hard as you can!
