Looking for somewhere away from the Cowes week frenzy, I crept into Owers lake in the dark as a mini night navex, anchored and had a quiet night if you ignore the 60Hz hum, can be quite picturesque if you look away from the power station, woke up to see where I was only to find at least one forumite had beaten me to it! A real tightwad sailor`s place! The local moorings have gone now the power station is closed but the channel is still lit and even has leading lights, was sheltered from the westerly wind and plenty of water at LW and seemed reasonably soft mud from what came up with the anchor.

Gaah, don't go broadcasting it, I'll probably be there on Friday and don't want the place cluttered up :)

Interesting to see it without the moorings; I was vaguely aware that they were going because one of the displaced residents was posting on the mobo forum looking for a new home, but it looks very different without them.

I used to anchor there regularly in Kindred Spirit, and I don't think I ever shared the place with another occupied boat.

What sort of depths are there - I seem to recall reading that it was fairly deep mid-channel but I was concerned that whilst the station was in use we might be in the way there. If it has now closed it might be OK.

I've never seen it used. It would only be used to bring in or out very large pieces of machinery, like a new boiler or something. Seems unlikely (though not impossible) that a barge would turn up in the middle of the night; if it did then I would just have to move.

I suppose if they've closed the station down then perhaps there might be more traffic in future to remove the kit?
