My boat suffered some damage during the BftE storm just over a week ago. She was on a somewhat exposed berth and was damaged when another, much bigger boat broke free from her berth.
The marina staff took the earliest opportunity to move her to a safer berth, and discussions about the next steps were amicable and productive. I only acquired the boat in October, she has spent the winter quite safely afloat and I didn’t have a cradle for her, and wasn’t expecting to have her ashore until the Autumn. The marina’s loan cradles were all in use, and the tidal cycle meant that Wednesday or at a push Thursday was the last day they could lift her out until the end of next week. Tenamast in Ayrshire, who normally quote 4 weeks delivery pushed out a beautiful new cradle for me and delivered it on Friday morning. Meanwhile the boat was lifted out on Wednesday afternoon and held in the hoist until the cradle was ready.
Did I mention that I was away at the other end of the UK on Wednesday night, and that a couple of friends moved the boat to the travel hoist? Big thanks to all concerned. Russel, Eileen and Fraser at Port Edgar, and Calum and Carol at Tenamast all made it happen, along with Ian and John who drove the boat round.
Marina operators often get a bad press, sometimes deservedly, but it’s not an easy choice of business and in this case they did all they reasonably could.
