I was just notified of a bankruptcy auction which might be interesting to some of the hardcore refitters here in the asylum.
The base price is 75k Eur, which might sound expensive, but the half built aluminum hull which is going to be sold was meant to become the 42m ship below, no less.
Sure, there's still a bit of work and equipment to throw into the project to achieve the final result, but nothing that folks like Vas didn't already tackle, on a tad smaller scale!
Oh, and together with the hull, you also get the full right to badge the vessel as what she was meant to become, i.e. an Akhir - and that alone is priceless...!
Should we open a "New Forum Boat" subscription?

Well, the task list is pretty long, and I'm afraid that petem skills (albeit highly appreciated! :)) won't be enough.
Just think of starting from a bare 42m aluminum hull, not even finished, and nothing else.
Apropos, yesterday I posted right after being pointed to the auction by a very enthusiastic boating mate of mine - whose enthusiasm was btw jeopardized after I told him how many digits it would take to estimate the completion costs of such ship...
And I hadn't checked the auction webpage, but just trusted what he told me, instead.
Now, as it happens, the auction actually specifies that nothing else is included aside from the bare hull. Not the right to use the Akhir/CdP brand, not the drawings, the schemes, nothing.
Which means that the boat should essentially be re-invented, starting from a huge pile of aluminum bits soldered together... :ambivalence:
So, I suppose that might be a bit of a challenge also for our best rebuild masters.
Btw, it's a real shame that the Mondo Marine attempt to revamp such epic builder, who made the pleasure boating history, ended this way...
Anyhow, if there's anyone whose level of madness is head and shoulders above the already high average of the asylum, the auction will be held on May 30th!

Sounds like it's worth nothing more than the scrap value of aluminium.

Tend to agree. Because it will be a one off bespoke project it's likely to cost far more to complete than buying an 'off the shelf' new 42m boat and then its going to be worth far less on the used market because it is a one off and it has no provenance. You'd have to be absolutely crazy to start this project. If you really want an Akhir of this size it would be far cheaper to buy an old Akhir 40 metre and totally refit it

Still it could be somebody's life's work if they have bottomless pockets and endless time;)

I suppose it would at least be an opportunity to redesign the interior so it looks like a boat rather than a Manhattan apartment.

All very expensive and high end looking in that video, but please don't anyone tell me it looks anything like a boat. Blank out the windows and you could be in any modern high rise.

But I do love the exterior I have to say, stunning.

pity, I'm too old for it, and it's too big a boat for me as well!

what you really want is a 25yo bored with life, plenty of skills and an endless truckload of money.
Doubt you'll ever find anyone, so I'm with the scrap value lot I'm afraid.

Mind if it was a 20m boat there would be some chances of someone making the move, especially if the hull was complete and the tops somehow holding together decently spaced, not that thing though.
Further you cannot practically move that thing, so what do they expect, someone paying say 75K euro for that and do what? Receive an ultimatum that boat should be moved in 10days and empty the space, or you get the hangar as well?

Barking mad doesn't cut it, must be another EN expression for it?

However, if someone wants to take it on, I could lend my design skills against a few days onboard (with diesel paid by the owner!!!) when it's complete (hope to be still alive by then and able to walk!)

cheers

V.

All very sensible points, folks.
Oh, well. There goes a potentially fantastic forum party boat... :D
