Fancy a bathing platform wash?

Spent the summer in Poole and the Solent last year and I have to say this sort of inconsiderate behaviour seemed fairly typical. Glad to get back to the relative sanity of the Thames.

Why not contact RYS and tell them what happened? I have not idea if they will do anything, but it might be worth a try.

I would agree with you on that Jez. I was thinking more along the lines of words that could not be put onto open forum though.

The guy must have an inkling of what his wake is like, and I wouldnt want to be in the path of that wake on a bathing platform as was Derek.

Someone in the area must know the guy and it should be pointed out to him that hes a total idiot.

Was that rib called Nemo? It was back and forth all day at speeds far exceeding 5knots, usually planning. I have to say that apart from Lion, most "big" boats were reasonably well behaved. The same cannot be said for the ribs the majority of which seemed to think the speed limit does not apply to them. Nemo was one of the worst offenders though...

The big lens on the camera pointed at them usually had an amazing effect on getting them to slow down very rapidly. Some just pointed at me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Rick
Thanks for the Photo's. I have spoken to the Harbour Master who is very helpful and further correspondence is ongoing.!! My dingy is punctured as a result and is being looked at / repaired this week. I was looking forward to a quiet night in Beaulieu which with the early alarm call (Thanks again for that Rick /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) and the River Racing /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I think I should have gone to Brighton /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Will keep you posted of further developments.

Sheesh, I did wonder about the dinghy /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Do keep us informed on the outcome - and I hope the repair is straightforward...

Glad the alarm call was in time /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif If you want full size photos, let me know and I'll send them along by e-mail.

Just remembered that I still owe you £5 for the mooring. Sounds like a good reason to have a pint so that I can re pay you. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah, that would be a plan, but a bit busy this week and next. I'll suggest something on the pub forum (perhaps 20th June?). Think I can extend the credit until then /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Tsk, tsk; she lives on the River, so ought to know better. Was this on Friday? I think she was moored at the Squadron pontoon in Cowes when we went past on our way to lunch.

Now a confession: in my haste to get back to my mooring, which gets a bit short of water at LWS, I may just possibly have given it some welly between the River Entrance and Needs Ore Point on my way home late on Friday afternoon. In mitigation, I would say:

There was no one at anchor except for a medium sized raggie, who was anchored in the middle of the fairway and not displaying a ball /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

The Harbourmaster wasn't around to give me a bollocking

In fact, there was no-one around at all

At 25 knots, I make much the same wash as at 5 knots, so I didn't erode Gull Island

I don't normally do it, honest guv!

This didn't prevent me from yelling at a pillock in a battered blue rib yesterday, who was making his way through the moorings at Bailey's Hard at, I'd guess, 8 or 9 knots - just fast enough to generate maximum wash. Git.

The 'Lion incident' was on Saturday morning. I think we were anchored in the river by about 6:30pm or so on Friday evening and overnighted (as did Derek and Roger).

If we'd been there earlier on Friday, your crime would have been passing by without stopping to say hello /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

relative sanity of the Thames. Bollox!

relative sanity of the Thames.

You must be joking not where I am.........

All w/e stuff went by in the 8knot / no wash speed limit at up to 30knots - the tour boats make a huge wash. i have never seen such poor seamanship.

I took some boat owning friends (Solent based) up to Richmond on saturday afternoon and they could not believe the speed / wash some peeps were doing/ making.

Re: relative sanity of the Thames. Bollox!

Ok, problem with that bit of river, is boats going down can't wait to open up having been restricted to 4.3knts for what seems like their entire lives. Boats going up have just been doing 10-30knts and haven't adjusted to how slow 8knts or less really is yet. Tour boat just don't give toss anyway.
