Anchored on the Beaulieu river with RogerRat and djefabs - having a great time. Derek had just gone back to his boat when this tonkatoy comes through at a good lick. His wake washed my bathing platform and it looked to me like Derek was up to his ankles whilst trying to hold his dinghy off. Could hear the thwack from my boat, so I assume contact was made /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And it was no fluke, he came back in the evening pulling a similar lump of water behind him:

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif This pratt was obviously going too fast but what I dont understand is he leaves with a red ensign and returnes with a white one???. Did he go to Cowes and threaten the RYS with his wash in their new marina unless they gave him membership? also flying it that high on the vessel I seem to remember denotes he is at battle stations? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I got caught once on the piles at bucklers hard.... some prat came flying past in his big stinkie. so i shouted at him, "do you think you own this river.. slow down" the reply was yes i'm lord montague /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
 
RYS boats may only fly the white ensign if the warrant holder - usually the owner - is on board, or nearby and in command. While these rules are the same all clubs which have rights to issue ensign warrants - defaced blue or whatever, the Squadron is very particular about the rules being followed.

So in this case, in the first photo, the owner isn't onboard - someone like the skipper is driving (if the boat has a skipper). In the second photo, the owner is onboard.

My guess is min 10 max 12 kts
 
There are only three GB (G) registered LIONs on the ITU website:

Call signs:
MHRZ8 - Nautical Training Corps (Gross Tonnage - 1)
MNTW7 - Payne (whoever that is) (Gross Tonnage - 4)
MRFB6 - Monmouth School (Gross Tonnage - 1)

so on that basis - it could be Mr Payne, bless his cotton socks...
It might be registered elsewhere though...

There is a Martin Payne & a Neil Payne, both of whom are listed as sailing various boats on the RYS website...

so... who knows!

It may be understandable if the owner is not on board for the outward trip but the fact the the white ensign and budgie are being flown confirms the owner or warrant holder is on board on the return trip and should know better.

There's a 5 knot limit here! At about 0900 hrs Saturday a big grey Rib with a Radar arch came through at close to 25 knots! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

We went to Priory bay today and I have come to the conclusion that there are Sailing boats, Motor Cruisers, Jet Skis AND effing idiots in RIBs'!

Why do they have to go at 25 knots plus through the anchorages? Jet skis are nothing compared and fun to watch playing in your wake. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
 
I wouldn't rely on the ITU database.

It's well out of date: entering my boats name comes up with the new owners of my previous boat...

No, but it is the nearest thing to a phone book - if they have MMSI, you can then contact them directly...

Maybe all boats should have their call sign / MMSI no. on the hull... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
