They were only teeny - 5p coin size and only bite if you interfere with them like rolling over into them.

Mate of mine was getting the fenders out of the locker when he yelped, he thought had run his finger over a rough piece of fibre glass, until he saw the spider hanging by its jaws from his finger tip, took him three shakes to fling the Beastie off. The effects are very much like a wasp sting.
