Falmouth to Kinsale - Best Routing

If heading for Ireland from the Scilllies bear in mind that the prevailing wind off the Cork coast is South Westerly. It can make sense to make a landfall in the West, say Crookhaven, and enjoy a downwind cruise to all the nice places like Baltimore, Schull, Castle Townshend, Glandore, and Kinsale.
As someone who sails out of Crosshaven, I can tell you that the prevailing wind is always in my face, no matter which direction I am heading....

We’re planning to sample the delights of the south coast of Ireland this coming summer. Starting from somewhere near Falmouth, what would be the best routing round the Scillies? Is it best to go well south and west before turning for Ireland? Or is it preferable to go for the gap between the Scillies and the North/South separation zone?

A stop in the Scillies would be great but I need a plan that caters for forecasts which rule out a stop there.

Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hi, I’ve done the Anglesey - Baltimore a couple of times and last season included Scilly Isles and Penzance. The additional bit of advice I would consider (apart from weather and tides) is consider when your “night time” part of passage is going to be and consider (A) wanting to be well offshore at that point to avoid the inevitable lobster pots (B) as I found out, it’s best not approaching a potential port of refuge like the Scilly Isles at night for the first time and (C) also depending upon your crew it can be good to keep well offshore at night so there is no tricky coastal navigation to follow.
