I wasn't sure if I could post this on the Ad-hoc on water events page, so the virtual pub one seemed most apt!

Come one, come all to the sixth annual Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival being held (in Falmouth...the clue is in the name /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif), Friday June 12th-Sunday June 14th.

We have 23 groups performing at this year's Festival, including popular "old hands" who come every year from near and far, and several overseas groups from as far away as France, the Netherlands and Denmark.

Entry is free, but one of our main aims is to raise money for the RNLI, so come and enjoy a weekend full of Cornish hospitality (and, we hope, sunshine!) and amazing entertainment, and donate what you are able to in these financially ravaged times into the RNLI buckets!

For those who would like to sail (or motor!) to the fabulous waters of Falmouth, there are plenty of choices for moorings or marinas.

We're lucky enough to be at Pendennis Marina and can sit in the cockpit listening to the singing. Great event and well worth a visit. We'll be there again this year.

Playing the devil's advocate here......as someone who lives on a boat often anchored off Custom House Quay in the Summer...... We dread the annual caterwauling fest that is the Sea Shanty Festival.

It appears to be a bunch of beardy guys wailing about the rigours of rounding Cape Horn when they don't look capable of passing Black Rock without a coronary. If you're not a closet Morris Dancer with secret penchant for fishermens' smocks this is little more than noise pollution.

If we played the Arctic Monkeys or Rammstein on our stereo at the same volume as the nasal wailing that we are subjected to from these fungus cheeked Chartered Accountants then we would be castigated by the entire anchorage (quite rightly).

Keep your vile perversions to yourselves!

Sorry to hear you don't enjoy the Festival, but there are many different tastes in music and everything in life, giving life the proverbial spice!

It's all for what I'm sure you'll agree are good causes though; both to raise funds for the RNLI and to help raise the profile of Falmouth and Cornwall, and attracts large audiences and raises substantial collections for the RNLI. Many of the participants may not have been around Cape Horn, but many are, or have been, serving members of RNLI crews and/or people who actively enjoy sailing.

I accept that shanties aren't to everyone's taste though, and hope you can find a quiet anchorage whilst the Festival is on where you can enjoy your own music without disruption.

Cheers
Ann

That is an insult to Morris Dancers. Some of my best friends are Morris Dancers and I won't have bad word said about them!
