falmouth haven - the rip off has started

Just had our new notification and the swinging mooring is 5.75% more than last year.

Still a bit steep, with minimal inflation elsewhere, but bearable - this year.

I met several sailors visiting Falmouth last year for their very last time.
They looked in really good health too so I suppose its the prices.
Salcombe all over again?

I have just picked up this thread..so Birdseye..what do you pay..? And what type of boat do you sail..? It seems a number of sailors are kicking against higher mooring & berthing charges. Living locally to Falmouth moorings can be found more cheaply on the Helford. I guess it depends on access and the level of facilities you need.

I had a helford mooring once and the cost then was twice that of Falmouth Haven. Unless the Helford have dropped prices significantly, they will still be a lot higher.

If you regard the Harbour Masters duty to get the highest prices possible then the prices at Mylor and the Helford are of course the justification for the increases at Falmouth. IMO, Falmouth Harbour is a public facility not a private business, and should be charging the lowest price possible after keeping operational costs to the bare minimum.

Dont get me wrong. I like Falmouth and the Harbour Master and staff have been excellent so far. But after a working lifetime of management bull**** things like the identity change, and the sharp rise in fees ring the alarm bells and trigger the bull**** detector.
