Some recent incidents reinforce the facts of my fading memory & essential goodness of human nature. The latest one being where I dropped my wallet in Leicester Forest East Service station on Sat evening. Did'nt notice it was missing until I got home, phoned up on offchance it had been handed in before cancelling credit cards etc ... it had. Drove back yesterday to collect it ... all contents still there including over £80 in cash. Well impressed. Also reckon I could get from there to Southampton in 2hrs 15min so E Mids to South Coast quite a reasonable proposition really
 
'bout five years back we got back from a diving trip in dorset to discover my wife's purse missing. Went through all the rigmerole of cancelling cards etc. etc. etc.
No less than three years later, said purse arrives in the post complete with credit cards,driving licence etc from a guy who found it in a field next to a layby! - we figure we probably left the purse on the roof (as you do when hurredly packing up the car) and it flew off a few mins down the road. Not only did this guy not try to nick everything, he actually went to the effort and expense of posting it back to us - impressive.
I personally believe there is a lot of good nature and helpful people around - they just don't shout about it, or make good stories in the papers.
 
My brother left his wallet with passport credit cards and £500 in cash on the train. We phoned the GNER and found it had been handed in at York station with not a penny missing. Bit of a buggerr proving he was the rightful owner but none the less an uplifting experience.
 
I found a woman's handbag with her contact details in it at a tube station. I posted it to her at my own expense with a covering letter explaining where I found it. Next thing, the old Bill were around at my place doing their best to make me feel like I was the criminal responsible for nicking it in the first place. .... on a good day with no traffic jams. Stuge and others might have a different view.

About the wallet - did it still have the moths in it when you got it back, or had they gone off to find another place rarely exposed to the light?

Thought J only went out leaving wallet at home in case he needed to buy supper??!! Surprised the Caledonian contingent were not scrambled to look for this rare and elusive object!
 
Came down M69,A46,M40,A34 route, very clear whereas M1 was "sticky".


That reminds me mon petite .. who did'nt have any money in Poole and who bailed him out?

Hmm - I find this a litle hard to believe
He dropped a 50p piece in the Aros Hall in Tobermory and he moved so swiftly to get it that it hit him on the back of his head

yep, i agree. I recently went on holiday and returned home to find the house NOT broken into and all the plants in the front garden not trampled on or stolen - AND nobody had whacked or scraped the car inthe least little bit either! Very heart-warming, i must say.
 
Excellent stuff ...considering the neighbourhood! Bit off that they had'nt washed your windows and cut the lawn though;-(

I heard about another Scot who asked the taxi driver to stop at the hardware store, (near his destination) saying he had just dropped a £100 note and he needed to buy a torch to find it....

Apparently the driver was impatient...
