Can anyone advise please on an appropriate HP 2 stroke as a back up for a 21ft sea going weekend 21 ? Mount integrated to bathing platform so long or short shaft ?

Back in the 1980s we sold Fairlines on the Thames.
A customer put a 7.5 hp long shaft Evinrude on as a back up.
He told me he didn't use it on a cross channel trip but enroute back on the locked section it mades 4 knots against the flow.
