Fairline Turbo 36 - opinions on the 200hp engines?

Ah okay, so she'd be suitable for channel crossings and so forth? I'm not exactly sure what the scale from moderate to heavy sea is or what that entails..
This is something that cannot easily be described in words, but you will know for yourself once you have actually met a moderate to heavy sea. I am not sure this is something you would willingly do with that knowledge once acquired with engines too small to ideally cope. Yes a Turbo 36 even with underpowered engines will get you through a very nasty time safely, but you may likely prefer to have taken up golf a short way in

You did ask for advice, but it would seem possible you are set on this boat and will therefore ignore fair comment made from hard won experience possibly because you are wearing rose tinted spectacles.

For the avoidance of any doubt I will be clear it is my humble opinion that this boat is not suitable for long range i.e. cross channel crossings, with the engines offered. I have owned a Turbo 36 with the 255 HP engines, and I have been out in her in moderate seas, where she was borderline comfortable. I also do know the difference between moderate and heavy seas. IMHO this boat was not suitable for the latter.

I would suggest "unless in settled weather where the specifically the BBC weather forecast is stating several days of settled weather is expected in the area you intend to sail", but seems to me you will read this part of the sentence and completely ignore the first part.

May I wish you good luck with your learning curve, as ultimately this is one thing everyone who boats will likely face at one time or another. I hope your ow curve is not too steep when you actually meet it.

Please do be very aware that the sea viewed from the beach on a sunny Sunday afternoon in July is not the same place as the sea on a dark cloudy day in a force 6 on the nose with a couple of knots of foul tide.

Yup I agree with that. The Turbo is a very good sea boat of its kind but its not a boat in which you'd choose to go out into heavy weather any more than any other planing leisure boat. As it happens, because of our inexperience and bravado, we did find ourselves out in conditions in the Channel on at least 4 occasions when we really should not have been and the boat looked after us superbly.
