Fairline Targa questions

Alt,

I know what you're saying, but perhaps he just likes the fair lines for whatever reason. Maybe he likes the shape, or curves cherry wood joinery, or maybe he has always wanted that boat since seeing one as a kid etc etc.

Boats aren't a rational purchase.

And to be fair, you do plug your cranchi on just about every 'what boat should I buy' thread, which I don't have an issue with - birchwood330 is doing the same - but it can get a bit tedious.

I think your response to jimmy was a bit ott to be honest

Whitelighter - I see your point, fair enough. Maybe my response was OTT, but imho so was JTB's in the first place. If JTB finds it harsh i'll hand deliver a letter of apology :p In my defence, while I may have plugged the Cranchi, it's been on no more than 3 threads.... hardly 'every' "what should I buy" thread... but I see your point, it gets tiresome. But do remember that I also recommend other similar boats such as Sealine's and even other Cranchi's (such as Zaffiro 34)

You're right, maybe the OP is set on a Fairline for some particular reason that they just haven't mentioned - I'm the same with Cranchi's... after owning one, I was set on owning another

Fwiw I like the cranchi's as well, always have but they are rare (ish) in uk waters so its no surprise that a lot of people buy what you see.

Have you considered sticking yours on with a med broker?

Good advice as they are a good brand and common in Southern Europe but the transport will be the achilles. Either way he needs to reduce the price but of course he isn't really selling it

Lads start a new thread if ye want, I feel we're clogging up this thread. Also I want to see how yacht gets on as I do like Fairlines (they're a gorgeous boat, in fairness)

yacht - any pics of the boats you're interested in?

Fair points, the Targa in Spain is actually with a dealer, it´s with Fairline Mallorca North: http://www.fairlineapproved.com/sea...p269186&sm=3&cit=true&luom=126&searchtype=buy

I´m getting less interested in this T34 since I read the surveyor report and had a look at these more recent pics, I don´t know if it is worth flying down there with the wife and kid, what do you think? What I do know, is that the owner is keen to sell and the price will go down.

Here the latest and "greatest" pics of the T34:

Alt: I´m hung up on Fairline as it´s like the BMW of boats, I don´t want the Sealine Audi, and then the Porsche Sunseeker is too expensive to run in my opinion & Mercedes Princess too expensive to buy.. and I do not fancy a boat from the 1980s.. Fairline gives me the right kicksIMG_5962.jpgIMG_5963.jpgIMG_5964.jpgIMG_5965.jpgIMG_5966.jpg

KAD44's are inherently good engines - I think like the KAD300 the valve clearance is vital on these so service history is a must.

Externally it's hard to tell from a few small pics, she'll need a proper compound / polish but this is routine maintenance anyhow.

One thing that may be knackered is the canopy due to the high exposure to UV - if this is the case you'll want to budget anywhere from £1500+ for a new canopy. This will best be done locally to wherever the boat will be kept as the canopy maker will have to make adjustments once fitted initially

You can see green paint overspray on some of the black bits. Not necessarily indicating anything wrong.

Changed my mind again, probably flying down in 10days or so to see the T34 and some other boats down in Mallorca.
Will keep you posted, cheers, Marc

We are in Mallorca on Easter Sunday. Club de mar. Say hello if you are still there. I can point you in the direction of brokers but can't vouch for them! There is a t37 39? Can't remember directly opposite me. It was on eBay for 90k I think. Tidy boat. I don't have his number but finding it won't be difficult if of interest. Also pm aquatom. He runs total marine there and has a good ear to the ground.

A poster above mentioned Cranchi. We had a Cranchi Enduracne 33 before the Targa ( giant speed boat). The Cranchi build qualiy seemed excellent and when I moved to Fairline was it better - probably - but the Cranchi was really very very good. HOWEVER ... in the UK a Cranchi wont sell ( at least mine didnt!) and whilst I would gladly own another one it would be on the basis that it was a real deal --- and hence accepting that it would proove difficult to shift. Our boat is now in Mallorca and there are plenty of Cranchi there so at a guess it would sell OK there. Maybe I was unlucky - I traded it at Essex Boatyards and they sold if for a very good price 2 weeks later - but I had tried umteen brokers.

I am sure a Fairline will always sell faster in the UK but I think comparing an Endurance to a Targa is a bit unfair. Those Cranchi Endurance are a compromise powerboat looking cruiser with not much high speed to them and not much accommodation eighter, so they do not have much buyers as much a Zaffiro or a Smeraldo i.e. pure Sport Cruisers. A few months back a friend of myn was looking at a few 34 Zaffiro in the UK via MBY and all the ones he called for where actually sold, or on offer.

Also the hull of the 37 and 40 are different. 37 has a pure deep Vee 21 degrees aft (that is powerboat style) which in my experience is a bit annoying in rough head seas since low planning speeds needs to be around 18 knots and with 6 feet plus waves this is not so comfortable. I dismantled all the interior cabinetry of one cause of this a couple years ago, which was then easily fixed back.
The hull of the Targa 40 is the same of the old early to mid ninties 38/39 with a couple of minor modifications. Many say this is Fairline best stern drive hull and I agree with that statement completely.

If you want speed and a joy ride go for the 37 Targa, if you want a more stable ride go for a 38/39.

Looking good! Are you going to keep it in Spain?

I´m living abroad since 10yrs but actually of Finn-Swede origin , so I will be shipping my boat to my dear home country where I normally spend the summers with my family. Planning to keep it firstly in Helsinki at my Sail Club (used to sail a lot) and then drive around the archipelago and later lake side (Saimaa).
In fact, I did consider keeping it in Mallorca or elsewhere in the Med but I dont have a lot of holidays during the winter so Scandinavia made more sense even if the season is very short, but short and sweet.. Mallorca would of course have been great as well but you cannot have everything, 2 boats would be the best solution heheh;)
