Hi, I‘m hoping someone might be able to help?

Does anyone know what size tender can fit in a Targa43 garage ? Or have a recommendation on make/ model ?

Failine are not exactly helpful in providing info or advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, my T43 (2004) currently has a Honwave T27 IE2 which fits in fully inflated with a 6hp outboard, doesn’t leave that much room on width or length so that is a good guide.

Having been in the garage with a tape measure, it is 155cm wide and 270cm length (to what would be the back of tubes, a few more cm centrally for outboard leg due to curve of garage door) .

The first owner of my T43 (2004) had a Williams 285 in there when new and having seen pics it needed to be almost fully deflated. T43’s also had to have modifications to the runners by Williams. I also think the later T43’s came with more height in garage than earlier ones as the depth of the fender lockers above were reduced and a gap left down the centre line, and the very early T43’s didn’t have the centre section of the bathing platform lift with the garage door either.

The new Williams Minijet (280) would fit perfectly I am told, fully inflated, but even used ones are expensive, 14-15k.

Last season I was looking for an upgrade to an aluminium hull rib with a jockey seat, but still haven’t bought yet. Was considering a Brig 300 which look nice bits of kit but this would be tight with some deflation required, also been considering an AB Rib 9 AL with a jockey seat set up which I believe would be spot on.

My 2002 model would take an Avon 280 with a 10hp outboard but I had to part deflate both tubes. Bit of a faff but the effort was worth it, using an electric pump was the easiest option and I had mine wired into the garage area for convenience.

That’s amazing thank you for your detailed reply, yes it’s a 2004 so old model ? Honwave sounds good I’ll look them up now !

Great, thank you. That’s a great idea having an electric pump wired in.

We've got an 2004, which had a slightly larger garage as mentioned above. We keep a Williams 285 in there with electric winch. It needs to be fully deflated as it's winched in and the tubes pulled together to fit. It certainly takes a bit of work to launch, but once you've mastered the technique, I'd say it's 10-15 minutes start to finish including inflating with an electric pump. For us in the Med, (I keep trying to convincing myself) with the kids it's worth it. Retrieving after use takes 5-10 minutes.

Had the Williams not come with the boat, I'm not sure we would invest in it, but it's a great toy to have. The MiniJet will fit.

Interesting to hear an Avon 280 with 10hp would also fit (just). Everything else I've seen is just a 270 with 6hp max. The garage was designed for the original ribs which were Valliant 270's with Fairline branding.

I have another question on this topic - do you think it would be possible to fit a jetski in there? Yama has one that is 3,14m long - will that be to much? Maybe the only one that will fit is the Sea Doo Sparx 2 up approx 2,7m long? Any and all advise greatly apprechiated!

3.14m long definitely won't fit - see my post above, I've been in with a tape measure, 2.7m should be OK length wise, it will be the height that could be a challenge although if you really needed to you could get a grp/fibreglass man to blank off the fender lockers (that are under the rear sun pads that you lift up) to gain extra height inside garage.

Thx Dan! ok maybe I shold try to do some sort of gadget to put in the garage to measure the height Before any purchase - bought the Targa in Spain last autumn so havent used it at all yet :)

Unfortunately I didn't measure the height when I was inside the garage. Just trying to think whether I had 1.05m of crouching space inside but I honestly can't remember.

Its sad times not being able to use our boats isn't it, particularly if yours is new to you! Lets hope that we get some use before the summer season is out. Mine is only 15 mins away from me in Poole, and this is the time of year when you get on with lots of little maintenance jobs but can't even do that at present. Better to be safe than sorry though.

It would be a nice add on to have a Sea Doo to play around with instead of the little rib - no need for that here in Sweden as you get really close on most of the islands!

Yep I hear you but hopefully things will calm down in a month or two

Have you signed up to the Fairline Owners Club and the Fairline Boats Old and New facebook groups? They are both excellent resources and the Targa 43 garage / tender issue has come up a few times in the last year. Petem on here is the admin on the former.

I believe there are three versions of the old Targa 43 garage. The earlier ones had the flat floor and just the garagedoor opening and you had to pull the tender over the bathing platform. This garage was designed to take a Zodia 285 with outboard engine if I remember correctly.
The later versions came with the V-bottom garage and the center of the bathing platform was attached to the garage door (the connection between the door and the platform part is prone to rot BTW). There are two versions of this garage which could be specified when ordering a new boat. One that was suitable for a jetski, and that came with deep but narrow fender lockers in the top of the garage, and one suitable for a dinghy that came with shallow but wide fender lockers.
To make it more complicated, during the production period there were also changes made to the type and size of rollers fitted to the V-bottom.
With so many type of tenders and jetkis available it is impossible to say which ones will fit and which don't. The only way to make sure your desired tender or jetski will fit is to measure your particular garage.
A Williams 285 does fit but with tubes deflated and depending on the year or spec of the Williams some modification to the Williams itself might also be necessary (repositioning of grabrails, etc.).
