Hi everyone,

Been reading the forum for a while and have made the odd post. Great source of information and amusement.

We currently have a Targa 40 and are thinking of swapping up for a Targa 43. We like the bigger dinghy garage (for the Williams Jet Rib) and the potentially better sea keeping the heavier boat on shafts should give.

We'd be really grateful though for other's experience of the boat and thoughts on pros/cons on this and other options....also other people's thoughts on the differences of legs/shafts would be really great as we haven't driven a boat with shafts before.

Thanks!

Only comment as I don't know the boats that well is 40' to 43' isn't gonna give you much more space if that's what you're after. Fine if you've decided that's the size for you, otherwise the Targa 48 we were next to in Guernsey looked a tidy lump of plastic. Shafts are a doddle, easy to manouver, cheaper to service, though apparently a bit less efficient.

okay. A mate had one when we had a targa 48. Although not with vast expertise of loads of boats, I found it really uin-nerving to drive - it seemed to "catch" the hull and fall over here and there - or far more than other boats in moderate sea - chine-riding? i think it's called. A bit, anyway.

Otherwsie, quite loverly and swooshy. The wooden sink-cover things inthe kitchen fall apart/split. There's the usual tendency for leaky patches in the saloon around the circular back of the master xcabin shower - which cd wreck the carpet or the varnish if not caught - re-siliconing does the trick. Watch for use of overcarpets to hide this and a multitude of other sins.

TCM - thanks for that. It is amusing that you mention the leaking shower compartment ruining the carpets - exactly what happened last season in our targa 40 but fortuntately covered and dealt with under warranty.....you'd think they'd have done something about it by now!

Woodie,

I had a Targa 40, really enjoyed the boat. I too had a long hard look at the 43, but other than a little more room and shafts its not going to be a huge improvement..it is a lovely boat though!

Have you considered the new T47?

Saw it at factory and at Genoa and is a better bet if you want more space, heavier boat, bigger garage etc etc.

Derf - agreed on the targa 40 - we are very happy with her as a boat overall - a few minor issues aside. We're waiting till LIBS to look at the 47 but w'out seeing her in the flesh I'd agree she looks like a great boat.

The two issues on the 47 for us are delivery time and cost - I think it would be too much of a stretch as I don't think they'll discount a new 47 as much as interest looks high........we're waiting to have a look round the boat show anyway so we may be persuaded!

I see you've moved up ot the 52....you happy with it? Where abouts are you in Puerto Solente - we were there season before last.

This will be your 3rd boat in 3 years.

Let's face it this time next year you'll be moaning that you can only get a jet rib in the garage and really you need something with two garages to get the jet ski in as well.

and then the year after.....!

Ideally I'd like to be able to fit a targa 43 in my dinghy garage but fairline don't have anything in their range to allow me to do that yet. Until then we'll have to make do with jet ribs and the like.

Have you dealt on a cranchi 50 yet? I see Crest have one for sale.....

Funny you say that, Crest rang me up offering me an exceedingly good deal on the 50.

Two weeks later and they went bust!

Went down to their office yesterday, totally deserted.

Anyway, you're only worried you'll start losing the dinghy launching races......you'd better get down to that boat and start practising...... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
