Hi Everyone
The purchase of the Targa is now almost complete. Should be shipped to Barcelona in approx 3 weeks. Just a quick question, we are wondering what kind of spares kit re- engines to put aboard. I was thinking 2 gallons of spare engine oil, impellers, filters etc, if anyone has anymore ideas please let me know. BTW it's running Volvo 480's year 2004.
Thanks in anticipation
Simon

pretty much what you have listed. Volvo bits are more expensive in Spain, 15´- 20% so bring a few years worth of consumables, anodes, air, fuel and oil filters, a spare belt or two and 2 spare impellers. Get new O rings for your fuel and water filler caps. Also bring your favourite diesel bug medicine - its hard to get in motor boat volumes and stupidly expensive. I usually bring 4 litres in the summer if I come over in the car. Don´t worry about oil that's easy to get and much the same price. Something I have found hard to get is antifreeze in UK strength, so if you have space bring some of that. Probably worth fitting a galvanic isolator too, if you haven't already got one as some marina wiring can be a bit rubbish. Make sure the plastic canopy windows don´t touch the bare steel supports - if it does they will overheat very quickly and go brown and split. If you haven´t got covered poles get a canopy maker to make some sleeves to keep the plastic windows off the steel poles. Temporary solution if time is short is foam pipe insulation over the steel bits. Once you have the window panels out just store the foam until October when it might be worth putting the window panels back in for the winter. If you have a dashboard cover make sure you fit it if you leave the boat for more than a week as the UV can wreck the plastic switches and trim quite quickly. Check the state of the aircon cooling water pumps. Some have brass or bronze impellers and they dissolve. They have to do a lot more work down here so they may seem OK in UK but be rubbish in the med. Can of Mr Muscle oven cleaner - you might find you use the griddle a fair bit more and the ridged version can be a sod to clean. Get the props, shafts and P brackets antifouled with something suitable before it goes in the water. Might be worth asking the Marina people in Spain what they use. None of them are perfect but they will have figured out the best one for that marina. I brought a targa 43 out to Spain a few years back with lovely shiny metal underwater bits - 5 weeks later boat wouldn´t go there was that much fuzz on them. Good luck with it all.

PS nearly forgot - lots of factor 30 suncream ;-) especially under your nose.
