I have recently looked at a mid 90's example of this boat with twin Volvo KAD 42's (230hp).

Anyone have any experience of these boats/engines? I am particularly interested in performance, seakeeping and fuel economy.

Thanks in advance.

I had a Targa 39 with those engines and reckoned on 1.4mpg at 22knots. Good performer and easy to handle. Nice boat.

Excellent boat. Good safe hull, will put up with nearly any sea you care to go out in. The KAD 42's need regular servicing more than most, especially pay attention to the pullies/belts and tappet adjustment. You deffinately do not want any corrosion on the pulley wheels. So the bilges need to be completely dry. If looked after they should be trouble free. You should get 34 knots and at 22knots about 10/12 g/p/h

Thanks. I have wondered about getting a slightly older one with the AD41 200hp engines on the basis that these engines have a very good reputation. Performance would dip a bit I guess.

Am I right in saying that the Targa 33 is effectively the forerunner of the 35? There seem to be a number of models with some variation in style (e.g. radar arch, transom doors, windscreen shape etc) that are called a variety of names (e.g. Targa 35, 34, 33, 33 Tri-cab, 31) and have diferent lengths quoted but which essentially look to be the same boat (I am not refferring to the current range but more those up to around 1995).

Absolutely!! Funny how what you want out of a boat can change /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

It all started with wanting more speed at sea..... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

All look similar but range from 31' to 37' the biggest being the 33???

Targa 35 looks a nice boat, a modern 33 with transom door which the old 33's never had.

Ah...so they are diferent sizes. I had wondered if it was the switch in naming after the waterline length to the overall length.

Must say we quite like the 35 because of the transom door etc.
