Hello to you all!

I am after some neutral and specific advice on the above subject. I am in the market for a new motor boat (currently own a Sealine 22 sport with volvo d4 diesel engine ((which is for sale ))!!
After weeks of traveling and viewing different vessels the wife and I have narrowed it down to 2 boat types. A 1993 fairline targa 31 fitted with twin volvo kad 43 engines which were fitted in 2005 with new dpe (?) outdrives and covered 279 hours ....or....a sealine s28 with twin volvo kad 32 engines having covered 150 hours.
The problem is we cant decide which one to go for.... I am lead to believe that the sealine is not as good a boat as the fairline as in the hull is not as good and will not handle as well ?
If anyone of you guys/gals have experience of either vessel I would appreciate any help on making a decision, although I appreciate it is my final decision, I need to get it right as its alot of money for us to spend !!
Kind thanks in advance...
NDB

That's an easy decision! (Not neutral though!) One of the best sea keeping boats of its size.
Ours is fitted with kad42's and love the power for when you have full tanks, dinghy on the back and a boat full of people!
The extra power is also a god send if you ever get caught in a large following swell.
We have had our targa for about 8 years with no problems at all and would recommend them to anyone.
Not an expert on the sealine but don't think you will be disappointed about the seakeeping of the targa.
A very solid off shore boat. In bad weather you will give up before the boat does.
Good luck which ever way you decide to go. Shout if you want any specific advice.

Nothing wrong with the Sealine but I would agree and go with the Targa. A bigger boat (that will matter) with very good engines and a good quality build. Our last boat was a Targa 35 and we loved it :)

Personally I'd go for the targa31. 43's are great engines and the 31 is a fine looking boat. Nothing wrong with the Sealine but it's no contest comparing the two.

Lord knows what it will do to a 31 footer!![/QUOTE]
With a clean 'bum' 40-44 knots! Gets you from hamle to cowes pretty sharpish.

the advice received thus far is absolutely and utter madness... don't listen to the delusional Targa contingent, Sealine all the way on this one... in my humble unbiased opinion of course ;)

Only area I can think that Sealine beats fairline is their forum! Excellent discounts( even for fairline owners!!)

We owned a Targa 31 for 4 years before moving onto Flybridge boats. Ours was a 1996 build fitted with KAD 42s. I had a couple of issues with the engines and eventually had them both removed, stripped down and rebuilt along with new exhaust risers etc. etc. Following this major surgery the boat was faultless in terms of performance. Clocked 44 knots on GPS on a couple of occasions .....was a bullet out of the hole!!. St Peter Port to the Needles in 3 hours!!. I found the boat to be a bit "light in the nose" and would slam in anything above a F3. Pain in the arse to have to drop the table to make up the double berth forward and no privacy curtain although I guess that could be easily sorted. Super chargers get on your nerves sometimes.......horrible noise!.............but that said we had some great times on it. Ours was the dreaded "green hull" which by all accounts would never sell.........I sold it within 7 days of placing on the market!.........

In an ideal world yes, but I have an option to keep my current boat on a tidal mooring until its sold !
Sooner rather than later though I hope!

NDB, a complete off on a tangent thought but I had to look twice, you've chosen a rather unfortunate forum name for those reading with less than perfect eyesight :)

The best of good fortune with you next boat search :encouragement:

Thanks oGaryo, very useful observation (NOT) !!! :ambivalence:

Fairline targa has a excellent sea hull, sealine 28 is not a patch on it, that's my opinion after driving many different boats.
