Fairline Squadron42 liferaft cradle

Isn't there dedicated LR stowage, bottom of this pic?

I own a Squadron 42, and agree that the hull is a good one, we keep our life raft in the dedicated life raft compartment which is located under the main cockpit seat on the back deck, logically that is where you would want it not up on a fly bridge , the compartment is adjacent to where you step aboard beside the " main entrance" hope this makes sense

Ah i didn't find that! Only had it for the day. That makes sense.
The one I had had it under the steps though. Wonder why.

don't know, seems odd, maybe the dedicated space had been filled with the wrong stuff like spare fenders, that seat is clever, the backrest is two way so you can seat facing forwards or backwards looking at the sea, if you tilt it forward there is heaps of storage underneath providing quick access to three compartments , of which one is for the liferaft

I will be on it for a weekend soon. Will ponder when I do! Discovered the face both ways feature. Really nice.

I have recently fitted a liftraft in a canister to a coded Sq42 and it was positioned under the flybridge steps. Secured using a pad eye on the deck and a loop on the bulkhead.

Thanks for replies. Anyone seen a liferaft in a cradle? Which is what I was really looking to have.

It's best to get a cradle custom made so it looks really neat. The catalogue ones are all a bit telescopic, erk. You could (if you wish) fit one to the aft part of the flybridge coaming on the sq42, I mean facing aft to one side or other of the radar mast, or around the corner on the side of the boat just in front of the corner

Buy the LR first then get the cradle made to match. Ocean safety do nice slim canister LRs. It is as subject for a whole nuther thread but people debate whether LRs should be on flybridge or aft cockpit; I'm in the former camp provided quick releasing and I have the below custom cradles, made by Mr Stainless in Levington but any good s/s fabricator could make them (sorry I cant find a close up)

Thanks jim for comments and pictures. All food for thought. Was thinking of the fly bridge area. Have seago raft and they apparently do their own cradle.

Seago is good choice. Seago and Ocean Safety LRs have the thinnest cannisters of the high-qulity rafts. 290mm for the 6 and 8 man. Mine in picture above are 2x 8man and 290mm thick only. This looks neater than the thicker alternatives, some of which are ~400mm.

Yeah, but......
I chose zodiac because it keeps 3 year service intervals after the first 3. Makes a big difference to the whole life cost. And getting the service done is yet another PITA thing to do.

jfm would be onto the next new build by the time the LR's need a service lol.:D

I don't know about seago but my oceansafety LRs are the same. 3 year interval for whole life. As you say makes big difference to whole life cost and hassle. Certainly isn't unique to zodiac

OK I know it will only take you 1/2 second to correct me but I went by this, and there only seems to be 3 exceptions in the appendices. http://www.dft.gov.uk/mca/mgn362.pdf
It seems its 2 1/2 years anyway :(
