Thanks James. The operating pressure was 120psi with a restrictor to slow it down or "catapult" would be an understatement. And see as you asked.. You did ask didn't you??? Here's a more close up view with the other side plate and cylinder.

yes indeed a beautiful thing Colin, you are a skilled chap aren't you, and yes, I think I did ask or certainly was going to!

a row of these all attached to nice stainless flag staffs with an array of different courtesy flags which could be operated from a control panel at the helm I am sure would be the envy of many a serious MY.

You might have to wait a while but I think the best solution is a waterproof flexible electronic paper along with a little app to change the flag automatically as you pass between borders. A quick google didn't turn up anything commercially available.

But of course the real benefit of this is when someone changes it to read something rude without you noticing :-)
