I'm sure a few of you own these boats but l've been asked to bring one back from the Med. I need to work out a budget for this boat with twin Mann 680hp diesels. I am assuming a cruising speed of 18-20 knots. Anyone got one and prepared to share........or similar sized boat.

Based on the engines I would say @ 1850 rpm you will be burning 90L. + per side
So figure on 180 L / hr max- assuming clean bottom .
The MAN diagnostic display will show L/hr so you can fine tune your calc,s ?

Around 13 to 14 litres per nm. Shipping it makes more sense. Better still it might go on a lorry. Squadron 58 the 2002-2009 model goes on a lorry. Much much cheaper. If you do go by sea have it lifted and have bottom cle ed and props cleaned.

On a long passage I would much rather do 7 knots. Uses half the fuel or less and you can run 24 hours a day as it's easy to sleep, eat and relax. Plane and you end up stopping overnight to rest so you don't get to your destination any faster, but you certainly use fuel faster.

Squadron 56/9 on MAN 680s'. (as similar as you can get) I am reliably informed by 2 previous owners, one still owns his (djefabs on here) currently and may even see this thread. He brought his back from Vilamoura and often runs cross channel at 18-20 knots and plans on 8-9 litres per Nm.

By land may be the economical quick answer, but I like Elessar's idea of pootling @ 7knots. No slower and a fraction of the fuel burn.

Hi, I have a Squadron 56 with MAN 680hp engines. Roger Rat is quite right (and has a good memory) you should find at 18-20 kts she will burn 7.5 - 8 ltrs / nm. I tend to run mine at 1900rpm (which seems to be the sweet spot) which gives 23-24 kts subject to sea conditions and she then burns 8-9 ltrs / nm. I guess it depends on where in the Med you will have to bring it from but I found it was a difficult (Size) and expensive (Dismantle & Re Assemble) boat to put on the road. Very approx. fuel budget £17k/£18K + 8/10 days. Good Luck

Cheers Derek,
See I do listen when you hold court as the 'lout' would say. :o:encouragement:

Nice to have it confirmed though.

Roger.
