I hear that Fairline have just announced a new squadron 48, it looks good on paper but anyone seen one in the flesh

No one has seen it in the flesh cos they haven't made #1 yet. I have seen the targa 48 in the flesh at the new facility in Corby that will build the 48 platform boats incl the sq48. Very impressive. Resin infused

OK, I wondered. Resin infused!!! that's interesting, will this be the first model with a hull so made as I believe there is a lot to learn about this process! Bavaria yachts got quite a lot of stick when they used it. Princess have done well with the process in their new models creating more room by dropping the floor level

Will #1 be ready for SIBS? Might try for a nose at the new facility in Corby, although I would have thought that a build facility on the coast would be a higher priority for Fairline to go larger.

According to the Southampton Boat Show web site the new Volvo IPS powered Fairline 48 Squadron will be shown at the show....

Looks nice 'on paper'. Much better IMHO to have a full beam master cabin away from the noisy bow. I have an immense dislike for having to climb up steps to high double beds so common in some forward cabin designs.

Good layout and a potential winner IMHO if Fairline don't get greedy on the price. I suspect there'll be a galley up version soon with the option of a 4th cabin below which could be a good Med boat for the family/charter market. My only reservation would be whether IPS600s will hit the magic 30kts in this boat. My guess with a fully loaded boat and moderate Med fouling, the Sq48 will struggle to get over 25kts. Also the fuel capacity seems light at 300gals; until now IPS hasn't delivered the expected fuel efficiency gains in flybridge boats so if the Sq48 delivers less than 1mpg in real conditions, then the safe range could be as low as 200nm which isn't great. On the other hand, if the spec is to be believed, it's a light boat which is presumably down to the new resin infusion process.
All in all though, good effort by Fairline and I hope she sells well
