Hi Guys

over a year ago I was looking to buy a Boat from EBY, I was put off by VP for two reasons: Engines(TAMD72) and white interior, well, The boat is still there and I am still boat less, What shall I do?
Make a low offer (engine replacement built in to the offer) I quite like the white interior, or do I look at other boats?

Burton Waters have got a sealine 420 with 63ps for similar money and the interior looks a lot better condition.
edit - just looked and Ting Dene on the thames have got a lovely 420

I also like the white interior but will it be a stumbling block when you come to sell?

What's the issue with the engines? As JtB says, maybe negotiate a decent price reduction and a longer warranty. Life's too short to be boat less for too long.

That leather can be brought right up with a professional leather treatment. Cracking is more difficult but you can make it so much better with the right fillers.

Even worth having a go yourself if you have some patience. :encouragement: See link below.

The Squadron 43 is a nice boat from a good time and a good compromise if it suits your needs. As it's in 'stock' and has been available for a while, it's always worth talking to EBY.

What is the worry with the Tamd 72s'? They're well proven, just a bit smokey on start up, I believe.:confused:

I think the interior is fine, though it needs new leather and carpet before too long so that creates opportunity to have any colours you want. (The guy who does the leather is only 6 miles down the road from Essex Marina)

As regards the engines, IIRC VolvoPaul's comments on them are not as bad as needing new engines. I thought he said you just have to take care with them. Surely an overall good price on the boat then an EBY engine warranty for all of 2014 season would do the trick, and then you just have to keep the engines well serviced

It's quite a lot of boat for the money (I'm assuming you're getting a bit of a discount to the asking price)
 
Sorry to hijack the thread but I will need some Leather Upholstery done shortly, we are based at Shotley so Burnham Area is not too far could I ask the name of the 'Leather Guy down the road'.

MJ Marine in Eldon Way Trading Estate, Hockley, Essex. Not exactly Burnham - it's the other side of the river. Proprietor's name is Martin Duce. He (and his team) make most of the upholstery on Fairlines these days and is good at custom work - they did all the sofas and headboards on my current Sq78. They're a nice bunch to work with. Martin charges reasonable prices, at least where you define the job efficiently and don't ask him to come and measure up and other time consuming things. No website but you can google his number

Pretty definite ideas for some custom leather work so sounds perfect, I will call and drop by.

then it's a stock boat, so always worth an offer I guess. Depends what the issues are with the engines, but the alternative would be to negotiate a long warranty on them perhaps?

This boat was berthed at Darthaven Marina for many years and owned by a nice guy called Bob ( don't know his surname). He traded it in about 15 months ago for a larger Fairline which he currently owns.
I remember him telling me that in one year (I think it was the 2011 season) he never moved the boat further than his mooring, to the lift out hoist - about 400 meters! I reckon the engines did no more than 5 hours in 3 years.

Having said that, he virtually lived on the boat. He never went far, but it was well and truly used.

Edit: Oh and If I recall correctly, the boat was originally for sale at approx £150K with EBY - so they have reduced it already.

That must be the one you could see as you walked over the level crossing moored on inside of main walkway at the end, was always well lit up at Xmas

Bought my last boat from them.A no B/S outfit.Easy to do straight forward deal and they only needed 20 mins to come to a conclusion about my cheeky offer.
Drove it home a week water.If you want some crew let me know.Bit pointless on a low loader that trip.
Be nice to see something parked outside your back door again.
