Apropos nothing really, here are some pics of hull #1 of the new Sq55, which has been bought by an Essex Boatyards customer. It has been alongside my boat in EBY's big shed for the last few weeks, and was launched today. The customer wanted it blue so EBY Awlgripped it very nicely. It will live on UK E coast

Fab boat. Blue hull looks very nice.

If it's actually painted on top of white gelcoat, I'd be slightly nervous about getting scratches on it.

BTW, does anybody know if the new Sealines with colored hulls also painted rather than done the 'old' way?

That looks classy. I like the way that the blue part tapers towards the bow. Begs the question as to why Fairline don't offer it considering that many builders now offer hull colour options. I don't see any planks of wood on the radar arch?
What colour are you having then? Duck egg blue hull with pink go faster stripes? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

painting is always better then blue gel even for future jobs, the problem is that it is more expensive for the builder to do it, so many people are led to beleive by the builders that gel of the mould is better
yes it is but only for them as it comes out finished and ready

another problem with painting is that mould has to be well clean and hull fairing close to perfection, as that will show all the sins done...

prefare the white myself...

Fairline got rid of the teak strips on the radar arch following advice on this forum :-). The production boats have plastic/grp painted silver. Those were retrofitted to that boat, hull #1. On production boats they contain concealed LED glow lighting, though I'm not sure if hull #1 has that

I've stuck with boring white. so far. Though I was tempted by a coat of paint when I saw how good a job EBY did on that one. I can't have blue cos I've de-blued the whole boat - all canopies, covers, ropes, fender covers, biminis, etc are black, and all upholstery (outside) is beige. So no blue anywhere. I wasn't quite brave enough to have black or grey hull sides but there's still time. What do you think?

If anyone wants a new unused set of aft cockpit "awning" covers as supplied new with Sq58, in navy blue, let me know. £200?

Dark hulls improve the appearance of some newer boats IMO, 'cos they're all so bludy tall to get the 2m head height in the mid beam cabin. A bit like fat birds wearing stripey dresses to make themselves look thinner. The Sq58 doesn't need it, cos it's quite low and sleek by design, plus i'm not sure J would thank you for all the extra cleaning required!

I guess you could photoshop a picture to see what it looks like with different colour sides?

Personally I think black hulls look very classy. Monterey's always stand out with their black hulls. Not sure of the effort in keeping it looking 'clean', especially when it's covered in dry salt...

the "Nordhavn" grey looks very special to me,
it gives the boats a little retro and or professional look.

Depends whether you think a painted hull will devalue the boat when you sell it. Some buyers might steer clear of it on the basis that the paint might be hiding something. IMHO, the Sq58 is already a good looking boat and doesn't need tarting up

Those are vertical stripes. Are you suggesting that jfm paints his new Sq58 with black vertical stripes? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the suggestions on hull paint everyone. I'll photoshop it! And post here if I can get a good result.

Nick H is right - the Sq58 has a low gunwhale becuase no mid cabin. Actually paint can look wrong on that sort of boat, cos it makes the white superstructure look out of proportion/top heavy. It looks better on the Sq55 in the pics above. As others have said, black would look even better imho

Petem, you're mixed up - I was voting for to-the-waterline :-). And how dare you suggest gold door knobs!

First thought, blue really looks good (then I am a humble T34 owner). Then looked again, no, perhaps black would look really great, then looked again and finally thought, no, definately keep it white - its just right for a Sq55! Wish I had bought more euros......
