Hi,

I have a fairline phtom 46ft and it is tripping the shore power. i located the problem as coming from the air condition supply socket. it seems that between the supply socket and the RCD on the boat, there is an automatic changeover relay. Can anyone help me locate this relay? Thanks for your help

Start by following the wiring, surely?

I would guess the relay is close to the RCD but once you've identified the cable that goes to the air conditioner, then it will lead into it.

There is indeed a changeover relay. It disconnects the shore power when it senses voltage from the generator, and (if you have 2 shore power sockets) it combines the two A/C busses into one so that the generator can feed the whole boat. I don't know where it is on Ph46 but it makes a loud click so you can trace it by listening as well as by following wires.
I'm curious why you think this relay is the problem rather than just a fault in one of the many motors and devices on the a/c bus. There are perhaps 7-8. if not a dozen, consumers on that bus, any of which could be leaking to earth and tripping the RCD. Why not try switching off each one at its dedicated breaker, or disconnecting with a screwdriver where breakers are shared, to find the culprit?
