Juerg,
You have clearly had a harrowing experience with your new boat.
As a fellow Fairline owner, I can tell you that there is no better solution to the type of boat or supplier. I , like you am a meticulous owner and I like things to be "right".
I have bought several boats from Peters and whilst they do make mistakes , I have to say that overall the faults they fix are Fairline faults. Having said that Fairline are no worse than the rest and it does not matter how much you spend the "silly" faults are the same. The marine industry is a long way from the car industry !.
I suggest you talk to the MD at Peters or Brian Peters. Having dealt with him and them for five years or so now , I am convinced they do care about their business and have never failed me in the end on solving problems. The right guys too in their customer support team are very good guys, you need these guys on it.
I'm sure they will respond for you so you can get on with enjoying your boat.
The 52 squadron is a great boat . I wish you a better 2002 season
regards
Lee Cureton (current 55 owner)

Peters - not all bad.

Not all things with Peters are bad.

I took delivery of a new boat last Wednesday (not a Fairline and not bought from Peters). The journey from Eastbourne to Chichester went without a hitch.

This Sunday I went for a trip to Cowes with four other boats, about 2 miles from Cowes the port engine (Volvo KAD43) started to die with lots of black soot coming from the exhaust.
After checking the engine bay, oil pressure and engine temp which were all OK tried again. Everything was fine until the port engine reached 2500 revs when the same happened again so slowed down and kept the engines at 2400 revs.
Went to Cowes and had lunch and discussed the problem with the crew of the other boats. The general opinion was it was the turbo??
Made the return journey back to Chichester at 2400 revs without a problem.

The following afternoon (Monday) went to Peters re warranty repair of the engine (it had only done 7 hours). After taking details they advised someone would look at the boat the following day. Myself and SHMBO returned to the boat to pack ready for going home. Within an hour of our visit to Peters an engineer came to our boat to have an initial look to see if it was anything obvious. He spent 20minutes looking at the engine without finding anything obviously wrong.
On his departure he asked whether I had checked to see if anything had got caught around the props as this could cause the described problem. Lifting the legs and having a feel around I found bits of nylon rope still caught behind the rear prop. DOH!

This weekend I will be removing the props to free what's left of the rope. (Ba$tard whoever discarded it).

This ultimately may not be the problem but seems a coincidence so my fingers are crossed.

The service I received from Peters was without fault.

Thank you Tony @ Peters

PS I had already planned a thread called Ba$tard Volvo's but I may have jumped to conclusions........

agreed: Peters not all bad.

I've forgotten what i posted oj the BB, and what was posted elsewhere.

My own feeling is that Fairline dealers are making a reasonable fist of a difficult situation. Problems should be rare, and a "no faults " new boat should not be unheard of. Peters doesn't refuse to talk to you - but Fairline do. Brian Peters is happy to talk to customers about what future Fairlines they might want - but he doesn't control design or product planning.

Of course, I and others would be happy to spend time with a Fairline person. But when I spent time on our boat with a Fairliney person, we did't get their attention, and didn't see the main people. I'm afraid to say that it seems quite clear that they can't really be bothered, and they really don't want any contact with customers. Why else funnel everything thru such a small number of dealers/distributors? Why else would their dealers talk about the lack of comunication in such an exasperated manner? One fairline person protested that they would hate to lose a customer, would see it as a failing if a fairline owner went off and bought from another manufacturers if there was a competing model. I can think of several doing exactly that. A great pity, entirely the fault of senior management imho.

Re: Peters - not all bad.

Mixed feelings on this - they said they had sorted out the power steering on MVII and I turned up with an instructor and found it still broke. Still they sorted it out eventually - after replacing almost everything that could be replaced (still got the cold metal wheel though!)

Havoc, fire, confusion, and mis-trust, yes my work here is done...

Agree to the problems are mostly at the Fairline end, not the distributors.

Can we keep this on one thread? Hard to follow now....
