Hi all

I have a Targa 40 and next to the tender garage is a "High Current 12v" socket. The boat is in Mallorca and I cant remember the exact placard but it is something like this.

This is NOT a fag lighter - it is a spaded socket into which you put a special plug. Behind the scenes the wires are BIG so it really is high current!

I want to use this to power an air pump for some inflatables.

So the question .... does anyone know the name / model of this fitting so I can buy some plugs?

Thanks as ever

Jeremy

Erk I cant remember. you get a plug with the boat, in one of the blue equipment cases. I think it might be made by marinco, but I'm not sure. If no-one comes up with the answer, I'll photograph it and/or get the name next weekend

Your knowledge scares me!

Have looked it up and am 99.9% you are right ( was this in doubt?).

However to put a spanner in the works there are 2 types - a 2 pin and 3 pin. Clearly 12v only needs 2, but I cant recall if the one on the boat was 2 or 3.

The only thing that leads me to the 3 wire version is that the wires are the back are BIG and they sell an adaptor allowing larger gauge wire for the 3 bladed version.

Also now I know what it looks like it looks familiar and i may have seen it on the boat - i think i thought it was a relay.

thanks

It's the three pin version, I use mine for exactly the purpose you want to use yours, and I remember a bit of experimenting to find the correct connectors. In this pic you can just see the plug has provision for three conductors.

Yup, mine have all been the 3 pin versions too. The second one you linked to Jeremy. I hope you find one knocking around somewhere on the boat (all new Fairlines come with one) because everything branded Marinco seems to be a crazy price here in UK even though this is only a $25 item in US

As a bit of useless info, this plug is the de facto standard connector for 12v trolling motors on US bass boats.

Thanks to you both. I do think I have one, but as I have 2 things I want to connect up anyway ( water scooter charger being the other!) I have taken the USD40 plunge in P and P and bought one.

I must be barking!

The power of the forum wins again!
