Well still not got my boat home yet so lots to plan in mean time. Will be in next month or so though :)

So it us running twin AQ130/270 drive. As far as i am aware they are good but not run for about 5 years. still turning over though etc.

Dont know why as i know fuel consumption isnt the best on these as i believe at cruising 20knots they guzzle around 5-6gph, and a si wont be doing long distance cruisng every week i am happy with that.. Safety reason, well i see it if you look after the boat and maintain it then it will last another 50 years without self combusting.

I like the idea though of performance, they give. 26+knots at crusing speed and i think is good.

But if i went to diesel engines on the 270`s what engine could i go with thinking on budget of say £3-4k for both engines if that is possible. Fury.jpg

The only 'cheap' option that I can think of is going with marinised Fords. There are a few 4-cylinder options up to 145hp. If you want 145hp you are going to have to pay the price. They will be professionally marinised units and I doubt you will get much change out of £10k for a pair. The Endura can be had very cheaply and the turbo & intercooled version chucks out 90hp, as found in TDi Escorts circa 1998. I paid £120 for the whole car when I was looking for one. A pair of these would be the budget option, but will still cost in terms of marinising etc.

Convert to single diesel Wayne.
Easy by your standards

I’ve done a similar job on my first boat. Happy to talk it through.

I will also add that I think your 5-6gph at 20 knots will be per engine, ie 10-12gph total.

Yes it is ill edit that bit. ;)

Anything goes as you know kida :)
I have had a few customers ask me to do these engine conversions to there boats, well inboard to outboard so near enough. until i told them the cost ha ha. Got one chap considering it.

I am happy to stay with whats in now. i will be bringing it home to do part restoration on it so this would be plan for some time.

Twin to single is probably the simplest way forward, but then you need to find a cost effective, reasonably compact diesel of at least 150-200hp. That might be difficult.

Wayne leave it alone and enjoy the boat , the money you will spend “not to mention your time “ will take some getting back in extra fuel ,as they say “KIS “ keep it simple,

+1

.....not an economical use of either money or time.
You will never recoupe , get it going, and use it, there be enough problems to sort, without searching for new ones.
