Fairline - Change at the top

Just noticed on Fairline news that Russell Currie has stepped down from MD not clear if he has moved on or still with company.
Shame if he has left after such a short period as had the impression he was the driving force.
 
He has now returned to Fairline North Mallorca ( 9 th nov) and David Tydeman ( ex Oyster) is now ceo.

I though Russell did a good job. There was the option of bolting new tips on old hills ( which is what I would have done!)or starting from scratch which given the model evolution of its competitors was probably the right thing to do. This I am sure cost £ ( or roubles?) but they executed rapidly to deliver new models.

Pricing seems high but they are selling so my perception does not really matter!

, Surprised he has left Fairline.
Do you think it was caused by the uncertainty of their designer Mancini moving over to Azimut or maybe the cold winters here!

He normally keeps a boat over there too with a penchant for Sq 58's.

With respect for the citizens of Oundle, that's a choice which I can understand, even if I'm not a fan of Mallorca... :D :p
 
Although Russel had huge knowledge with Fairline dealership, I am not sure of his experience in manufacturing, perhaps the owners wanted someone with more grounding in that field with Russel as consultant.
 
Russell did a fine job imho. He stepped into a tough gig immediately after the Wessex Bristol episode almost exactly 3 years ago. He got a good team together and got production going. He quickly made fairline buyable and wantable again. He has, without deep pockets, got new models out and got Mancini input (even if the mighty Azimut then lured Mancini). He took the first big steps in getting a waterside factory. And he did all this commuting from his established home and family in Mallorca. Oundle isn't near any airports, and Palma isn't anyone's first choice of airport to use weekly. And he's an all round nice guy. I don't think it is right to speculate that anything's up; it's entirely understandable for him to return to his Mallorca business and life after a 3 year term as CEO. Respect to him and I wish him all the best.

Yes he did a super job indeed, especially with no manufacture experience.
