Hi All

I have just started the port engine up and have a rush of exhaust and water spew out near cylinder #4 (see Pic).

I have taken off the exhaust manifold and seems ok but will pressure test to see but the block is damaged. There didn't seem to be any water in #4 cylinder as the engine was firing ok. Does anyone have any thoughts with experience of the likely cause?

1 Head Gasket Blown
2 Exhaust manifold is faulty

My feeling is the exhaust manifold has been leaking slowly.

Obviously a repair on the block manifold is essential. Can this be done in situ? I was thinking of a metal filler and stainless tube to go from port to port.

Any help really appreciated.

Breakers yard: Second hand Cylinder head, Motor factors: new gasket set and a new Cambelt. Looks like a Volvo 740GL engine

Hello I can't see any damage to your block in the photo but the cylinder head is corroded badly this is probably the cause of the failure I would not attempt any repair to the head they based on the volvo car engine as no regrets says but to cut out the hassle of locating one you could try coastal rides in Dover. No connection they might have second hand ones on the shelf the exhaust manifold needs close examination as they to suffer from corrosion another company I think it is called ivss also in kent deal in recon volvo engines and parts hope this helps

Flipping great lump of metal has fallen off in the first photo, look for a new cylinder head, both motors look in an awful state:(

That could be welded by a good welder. Remove the head and take it to a aluminium welder or if you can't find one a car engine reconditioner would be able to get it sorted for you. Far cheaper than a new head
