Fl update there second big model the 68 Squad, by adding an extended hi/low bathing platform and transform it to a 70, to compete with the succesful SS 70 Man and new Az 70F, this is a great looking model but I think sales have been not what Fairline expected....
have a look and read here

comments!

IMO - They just had to do this - no other option.

Did you ever look at the SQ66 or SQ68?
Not a very practical boat.
A small garage was the only place for the dinghy.
No room up top for dinghy either.
Small owners cabin and big crews quarters for size of boat.
I wonder if they've changed this concept as well.

This boat now seems to be getting a bit close to the 74.

Our P67 is SO much more practical.

The 74 also had a dinghy garage, which meant the cabins were small for a boat that size, but the garage was later deleted (or at least an option not to have it), so I guess they have done the same with the 68/70, but needed to add the extended bathing platform to keep the tender on.

I have met a 68 Squadron during refueling in Olbia and by looks i must admit it is very good looking, this one had the small tender stowage up top,
it did not look spacious though and is less beamy compared to the competition but I think thanks to this should also have great handling
still her layouts seem to offer considerable berths and cabin space and now with this update also more
Scej do you work for Sunseker? Have heard some mixed reviews for the 70 with few of them praising her
JFM a regular over here also helmed one and really did not like her, but apparenly that one has some speed problems...

Garage (option) was for jetbike not tender. Tender goes up top, till the new 70 version where it goes on bathing platform. Cabins are smaller than p67 becuase p67 has 3 (excl crew) whereas Sq has 4 (excl crew), so inevitably they'll be smaller.

Oh - yes - I'd forgotten about the fourth cabin but the size of the main cabin's bed is pitifully small for such a large vessel.

Also when I looked round the SQ66 in the early days, you'd be hard pressed to get a decent sized dinghy up top.

Seemed to me to be very unconventional. It just felt all wrong for us - mind you the P62 was wrong to us for some of the same reasons - we didnt want the extra cabin at the expence of loosing space in the main cabins. I think that the P62 is aimed at the charter market - two families can share a charter for example. Likewise the SQ66/68/70 could do the same.

Got me looking at the Fairline website and the boat listings - so how does this work - 2008 Squaddie 78 for sale because "the owner has ordered a larger Fairline" ?? Do they have a bigger boat coming down the slip?

have an 85 Squadron on the works, but been work in progress for the last 2 years AFAIK (if not more)
lately Fairline have been really long coming with there entirely new models and always delaying there presentation
55 Squad took 3 years to come in flash, 65 Squad has already been announced for 2 years and was supposed to come for London, 44 TGT took also about 2 years, have also a 58 Targa which should be launched next Southampton 09

at the moment it is understable with the slow market, but with a £ equal to the EURO I think the british builders should have an easy market right now, and are in a better position then there EU counterparts

Yup there is an 85 in the works and you can order one. Ref PY's comments that it is taking a long time to get to production, perhaps true but it has several unique design/engineering features never seen before on this class of yacht (indeed, hardly any yacht) ever before so the time being spent isn't being wasted
