Hi All

I have just joined and have a few questions for you all.

1. People say that when the engines are running on a 2005/2010 Fairline targa 47gt hardtop it is very load in the cockpit and there is bad vibration, can this be fixed! I think some people have tried but with no joy!
2. Is this the same with the 52 GT hartop of the same years!
3. I have seen a company abroad that does remapping chips for the volvo D9 and D12 which gives each engine about 60 hp extra ! Any thoughts!

Thanks

Hi ya

OK I think I will give that one a miss. Can you point me in the right direction of anyone who might know about the engine noise on the 47/52 !!

Thanks
Stew

we have a targa 47, the only time you get rattling is when the roof is not closed tight or not fully retracted, we did however look at one targa 47 before buying ours, that had a rubber wedge for the roof, the owner said it was to stop the rattle? we have been in very rough weather, theres a you tube of one of our trips, as you can see there is no vibration noise. what i would say is that the boat is noisy from engine noise only. we have sound proofed the hatch and has has a bit of an effect.
cant comment on the 52, agree with the NO to the re-chipping, theres plenty of power with the engines as they are.
hope this helps

I owned a 2005 Targa 52. It was noisier than the Phantom 46 I had before and the 50 I had afterwards but not that bad and a great boat.

there is one for sale in my marina in Lymington that is in excellent condition.

Thank you

But isnt the phantom 46 and 50 flybridge boats! Or are you saying its quieter at the lower helm than the targas!

Thanks
Stew

Underwater exhausts are the way forwards re engine boom reverberating around .

Some extra sound proofing , but different to what’s there now might lower it .Thing is you still have the air vents on the hull sides which obviously can’t be closed .

Two no no s re noise .
1- semi tunnels = turns the fibreglass hull into a amplifier
2 rear 1/4 open exhausts outlets . = get the full force of gas pressure escape.

Hi Porto

Thank you, its not the outside noise im really worried about, more its the noise coming up from the cockpit floor when at the helm and inside the cockpit ! but very interesting what you say.

Cheers

They are flybridge boats and were quieter at the lower helm.

If you speak to James Barke at Boats.co.uk - if you are in the market, he will take you out in one and you can see if you are happy with the noise

What are you comparing the two to ?

We have had boats with D4s, D6s and now D12s (in fact we changed to a Targa 52 GT Hard Top last year), and in each step up the engines sounded different, as you would expect.

The only thing i’ve found is that the bigger the engine the deeper the “burble”, and in fact WOT with the D12 is much less of a “scream” than the smaller engines.

If noise is a deal breaker for you, why not consider a flybridge ?

Hi Andy

Thank you, Is your 52 noisy with the engines running when in the cockpit, engine noise coming up from the floor!! Do you know if the 52 is quieter than the 47 !! I dont really want a flybridge I do alot of single handed for docking and struggle abit going up and down ladders/stairs !!!!! I have thought about same age princess v53!

To be fair, engine noise wasn’t on our list of potential deal breakers, so the engine noise is the engine noise.. we spend most of our time in the marina or at an anchorage a few miles away. That said, as said above, I wouldn’t call it intrusive at all. If you pm me your mobile number i have a video of the engines being started up in the marina, and also cruising at c23kts and c1600 revs.
