Fairline 3 day week

Sorry cant agree with that. There is still a long way to go for this depression to bite. Expect to see prices drop considerably next year and dont buy until next Autumn if its a best price deal you want /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Deleted User could it be that Fairline prices have been a bit on the high side?... and the interiors of their larger vessels have become rather dark as I recall. Overall not my cup of tea.

As for Sealine cant imagine why they would lay off staff as they are the only one of the big UK four producing boats under 40ft, reckon its cos lots of folks would not buy a new boat even when times are good let alone in a recession.

Yup, agree with that. So far, the recession has only just started and has not been reflected in unemployment figures, company losses and bankruptcies yet. SIBS 2009 or LIBS 2010 will be very gloomy indeed and that'll be the time to get a bargain

Fairline prices have been ambitious for a few years. It might work in times of plenty but not when money is scarce. There's a huge amount of competition in the sub 40ft market so it can't be easy for Sealine
What is worrying is that Fairline and Sealine should be benefiting hugely from a weak £ against the € and the $ for export sales but it seems even export markets are declining

But all Sealine have done at the moment is revert to in house hull moulding, and trim work. The new staff level is only the same as when they were making 40 boats a month in the 90's.

Fairline say 85pct is export... and that they envisage production falling back to 2006 levels.

yeah depends the point of view, it is true it is export but most of them are sold to British customers who keep there boats in the med. I think Fairline still sell above 50% of production to British clients, same goes for Princess but may be a little less here about 40%, big success with the V series a for them, a few years Fairline used to sell more to foreigners
while Sunseeker sells about 75% to foreigners which has the best exported product

Sealine has rided also the price too high, the new SC 35 costs a much more then a Bene 37 MC or Jeann 38 Prest, I think quality of this later one is on the same level, then you have similar or bit more expensive Atlantis and Absolute is in the same bracket, not to forget what Cranchi and Sessa also do in lower prices for sub 40 boats, but also Bav and Elan, while quality for Bavaria is less to Sealine I am sure it looks as much as good and the price is ultra competitive
then you have other upcoming growing builders like Galeon who is improving a lot IMO
it is hard out there competition is growing like crazy and the most thing Sealine and Fairline have done is increase prices like crazy
a friend of mine was buying an SC 35 a year ago, but he finished off buying an Atlantis 35 Plus, he said everything he asked at Sealine they did not want to change, he wanted different wood trim they said no, for the passarelle they asked him 10.000£ extra plus reinforcement, he told them the patio door needs to be more to the side as the tender on platform will obstruct its use, they told him buy a smaller tender
I think he gave them a dozen tips to improve that boat which was all ignored

Yup, good point. It's really only Sunseeker that have an internationally recognised brand so their export markets should be more diverse and, therefore, more resilient. Whatever you think about some of their customers (forumites excluded obviously) you have to hand it to Robert Braithwaite and his management for building such a fine company. If only there were more in the UK

and isnt it about 10pct of your purchase price went on marketing it to you... gulp /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Fairline 3 day week and eby

You are going to make yourself very unpopular making a statement like that on your first posting here!!!!
I'm not sure what sort of person would wish anybody to go bust with the financial climate the way it is.......?
Very sad statement indeed.

Re: Fairline 3 day week and eby

Not if the person concerned has been shafted by them it isn't.

If I had experienced a really bad level of service from a company, regardless of what business, and given them a fair chance to sort things out, but was still treated badly, then I would want them to go bust, and furthermore, I would wholly enjoy driving past as they shut the doors so I could wave a few [--word removed--] signs at the people concerned.

People should learn to express themselves in this way, it's good for stress /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Fairline 3 day week and eby

So all employed by them deserve to lose their jobs due to the performance of the Directors!!!!????

To look at your profile its seems you rely on some big outfits to enable you to make a crust? god forbid they don't go bust through no wrongdoing on your behalf.

Re: Fairline 3 day week and eby

Trust me i know more about this company from both sides than anyone, ive never be conned by them because i have owned 25 boats and had more proper experience than most, but this is what happens when they employ people who just say yes and dont find out whether things are possible to do. i have seen many bodges most with sikaflex and sealant. look at most exterior accesories fitted by eby a few months after fitting and most have sealant smeared all over them because they couldnt be bothered to mask it up. there are many many poor jobs just look for yourselves

Re: Fairline 3 day week and eby

Hang on you've edited it to remove the reference to bald people, but I saw it. Even though I'm only slightly very bald, I am insulted and will report you to the Slaphead Equality Commission. Expect a knock on the door from anti terrorist Plod soon followed by a compensation claim from my lawyor

Isn't it about time you fessed up, filled in your profile and gave us the low down on why you've got it in for EBY?

Re: Fairline 3 day week and eby

I agree - but then again he's just a poor sod who's got the hump with them over something. Pity he can't substantiate anything or identify himself or even herself - or is it because he/she may be sued.
He/she would have more cred though if they did.
