fairey model boat?

Sort of, but 909 was Fordspeed a Huntsman 28. The advertised boat is a Huntsman 31.

The boat on e-bay is modelled on race number 200 "Double Century" that
did the London-Monte Carlo race in 1972 and is still going very strong with her original diesels in her

They raced motor boats from London to Monte Carlo?! How far is that?

As a kid I walked to school past a model shop in Bedford. They always had a Fairey Swordsman or something in the window. I was always late to school....

I would bid but my wife would kill me.

I know nothing about woodworking or model making but have always been tempted by one of these.

Though i somehow doubt that mine would end up looking like that.

I think the footage of the three Faireys was probably lifted from "Ride the Wild Horses" - a documentary about the Round Britain Powerboat race from the early '70's (? ish).

A quick bit of googling finds that "ride the white horses was the 1966 Round Britain power boat race.
A department of the BBC called Trade test transmissions made 48 films in all, some of wich are in great demand because of the fledgling writers/producers/directors.

Thanks. Longer ago than I thought. I remember seeing it shown at the LBS one year but didn't think it was as far back as the 60's.

Sign of advancing years and decrepitude..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

steve.

Miss Bovril

The guy who bought her posted on here with some questions about restoring and re-engining her but I don't think he's been on recently. I wonder how it's going?

Yes,she was a Sonny Levi/Triana hull.

Re: Miss Bovril

I think he put her back up for sale.

There is Miss Bovril 1 and 2, cant remember which it was.

Its quite right that double Century competed in London to Monte Carlo and is currently for sale and 909 was a H28 not a H31.

Ride the White Horses was a documentary about the Round Britain Race produced by Ford as they sponsored the Fairey Marine boats, copies are available to members of the Fairey Owners Club.
