Fact or myth?

Having a mooring close to the dredged channel on the Orwell we often get teased by a friend from Lowestoft about a moored yacht having being run down by one of the coasters in the dim and distant past. Out of curiosity I have Googled it but in vain. Did it ever happen or is it an Orwell myth?

I believe it was a Russian ship that had rammed the Ipswich Dock lock gates a few days before.
As I remember, drink had been taken.

It is very unfortunate to be run down more than once. I hope it does not happen to me before my seacocks fail. Beginning to regret moving to the Orwell

Ah, but if your seacocks fail its could be your fault. If someone hits you it THEIR fault!
Just don't keep your insurance docs on the boat!

If you think how many boats there are in the Orwell and how many freighters run up and down it, collisions seem a low risk. In eight years on a mooring hard by the Orwell No 6 buoy I never had any problems. The infernal racing dinghies from the RHYC... that's another story. They owe me a fair bit of paint and varnish!
