Just painted on some o that Fabsil water proofer and the smell is rather strong - does it diminish to nowt or hang about forever on the spray hood canvas?
 
The smell you are smelling can't be doing your respiratory system any good.

You are painting on a hydrophobic substance, one that will significantly change the surface tension of the fabric.

It's not really something you want on the lining of your respiratory system.

A suitable mask that blocks gases and odour is a must IMO, as is doing this sort of procedure around others, unless it's proven safe to breath in and yet still provide a hydrophobic surface to the fabric?

Of course it is probably a measure too far to go for an average owner to cover fully with PPE and have a decent mask, so I'm not having a moan, just saying. cough cough :nonchalance:
 
I poured loads of the stuff on our canopy, and then left it to dry in the sun.

No problem, but it's very good at repelling water!!
