The service from the HM's office may be poor but the timewasting seems to be yours; unless there's a VTS in force, why not just go in and tie up? Particularly when prebooked.

That's a bit unfair - he did list a whole series of attempts to contact them.

Personally I think Fox's boatyard is the best I have ever experienced - always professional, always helpful, friendly and knowledgable - and tactful when suggesting to me that I leave it to them to move the boat to the slings

I have no experience of contacting the marina but no business should be too defensive when it comes to criticism, better to hear what's gone wrong than wonder why people aren't coming back.

I have found rying to contact Foxes a bit of a hit and miss process, but whenever I have dealt with them, they have been exceptional, and not overly expensive.

Sorry if my post has caused a force 9 in a tea cup!! it was not my intention...

Baggypipes is correct - we didn't know what to do - but it was our maiden voyage, and we were still learning how to handle the boat in confined space.
Slightly wiser now (note the word "slightly"!!!) So I'm v sure we would just go straight in now!
However, I will always vote with my feet when I experience poor service! I did try and complain......... but sadly they were not interested.

But it is good to hear that a lot of people have positive things to say about them.

Perhaps we'll try next year as it would be great to meet up some forumites.

As for Neptunes - yes ouch v expensive, BUT... the free entertainment watching everyone stagger out of Issac's was priceless during the August babk holiday!! Handbags at dawn or what!!!!!!

As a side note, On Saturday, the Fox's yard chap stopped his tractor and gave me a hand to put the dinghy on the roof of the car. Didn't ask him for help, he just noticed I needed a hand. Goes a long way in my book.

I'm sure me and the GF could have managed, but at the time she was having a H&S moment about my choice of roof bars - couple of bits of timber scavenged from the yard and lashed on. Made it back to Southend in one piece
