When sailing in the sun we used Aviator Ray-bans because they block UV which can damage eyes as well as skin. Anywhere near reefs we changed to polarizing sun glasses that take the glare off the water so you can see the coral.

See Dylan....?

Just put on some flash polarizing sunglasses and all that East Coast mud just melts away and you can see the coral.

I got a pair of polarising sunglasses a few years ago from an online American angling site that someone on the forum linked to. They're good, and at under £10 reasonably priced. They did come with a free DVD entitled "Winning Pegs 2" which presumably means something if you're an American angler.

You're not kidding, not so much Aviators; they're far more Proclaimers! http://southwestshows.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/The-Proclaimers-2012.jpg

I prefer to to think I'm a bit more Elvis Costello. Self-delusional, I know.

This is very obvious but the way to protect sunglasses is just to hang them round your neck on a piece of string. Most people do this on a boat anyway but I have found that having needed glasses for reading I used to regularly lose/trash my £1.99 specials but since having them around my neck on a string the latest pair has stayed with me undamaged for months. (you look a bit of an old codger though)
