Extremely expensive day out!!

Lesson learnt.

Don't wear expensive watches.jewellery, spectacles etc. on a boat.

£10.00 Casios do the same job along with Specsaver glasses (if you put them on a string)

When you go ashore that is the time to wear your designer gear, not when messing about in boats.

Yes.....I think I've got that one figured out now :D

I wear (wore) that watch every day for years....in all kinds of places....safe and unsafe....never crossed my mind to change it :D

Just curious , as i have a rather nice watch , which is covered on my home insurance , but i don't think it applies when i am out and about. It's something i need to look into i think.

Methinks it will need one of those cranes with an electromagnet on....hmm....dipped in a river??

A 'Sea Searcher' will lift 64kg , the IRA used to use them to attach bombs to cars.

i doubt the accuracy of the poor Watch would ever be the same again!! :D

Definitely worth checking.....I'm with More Than: personal possessions whilst out of the home are covered (excluding travel abroad of course which needs a travel policy).

I wear my watch as well, as No Regrets says I didn't buy it to leave it in a drawer.

Yes, it's covered on my house insurance as well.

I did lose my 18th birthday watch overboard many years ago, the river has claimed many items! Two weeks ago we lost the pumpout adapter as SWMBO said "oh it doesn't float" as it was heading for the bottom. £20 for a bit of plastic...

Watson, sorry to hear you lost your watch, now where is my sea magnet :D

Sadly, there's not much steel in a quality watch, and that's what you need for a magnet.
There's a possibility that the balance wheel is steel and if the case is stainless steel - the the good quality stuff is not magnetic.

So today I took a couple of friends to Henley (yes, yes I love that run)

Lovely day....almost nobody on the river...straight through locks which were already open by the time we arrived. Ywo complete novice guests who managed to get lines on the bollards first time, every time. Splendid food and beer. Loverly.

Until we reached The Spot. Told them the story about the watch.

One almost choked laughing.

One asked if it was waterproof.

I need a glass of red:D

A customer of mine managed to let slip a 24K, diamond encrusted bracelet from her wrist into the Thames, estimated value £5000 + :(

There is a reason I go underwater metal detecting :)

Would love to have seen the lock drained out like that Teddington, there's gold in that mud!
