I wish to run electriclal cables up the mast and do not want to run them inside . I understand that there are lengths of proprietary screw on trunking which can be attached to the outside of the mast to give a neat appearance . Can any one advise on the success of this method and on the best make to use ?

Scanstrut...

Scanstrut have some special conduit in 2 sizes. Can be easier than messing about trying to get the cable down the mast; but doesn't look as neat.

Was common on wooden masts ... as they weren't hollow .. but generally the cabel was set in a shallow recess.

On an ally mast - take it this is an ally mast ? It would look awful IMHO .... but agree its much easier !!

?? Would putting so many small screw fixings in weaken the mast ??

I put external trunking up the mast for the radar cable.

Has the advantage that the radar can be demounted easily if ever the mast had to come down (no deck joint either)

Looks are not brilliant, but who notices it.

As for weakening the mast, a round hole shouldn't do too much damage, along with all of the other screws and rivets in it already.

regards

Scanstrut. Expensive but good UV resistance. I Sikaflexed it on. Not a good idea to drilol holes in one line along the mast.
make sure you prime with the right primer, then it sticks forever.
