I'm thinking of upgrading the exterior cushions on the P57 to the trendy new fabric you see on some new boats like the Phantom 48

Anyone have any comments about drying time, durability, staining, colour fade etc? Also anyone know what its called, is it Sunbrella Supreme? This seems like the stuff, but I can't find the colour in the picture above shown anywhere.

I like the look of this stuff but i have reservations about its durability and staining from suntan lotion, especially if you intend to entertain alot. All Imho of course

Dont know about how it works first hand but all those claims on drying and durability are regularly uttered by Fairline salesman and I believe them. It's been used on superyachts for years, the production builders are only just catching up.

It's definitely Sunbrella. It is possible Fairline buy enough qty to have custom colour made. They do that with their carpets which are made by Ege in Denmark. That means if you want to replace a patch of carpet you need to buy thru Fairline. But if you are replacing the whole lot you can buy direct from Ege dealer and get a very similar colour and the same texture, becuase Ege obviously make a zillion shades of, say, beige.

I just looked at subrella and Dupione Sand 8011-0000 is very similar to the one Failine use lots. It might not be a perfect coplur match if they do what they do with Ege and get custom colour, but as you are doing the whole flybridge that doesn't matter. If you look on their website it's in "fabric showroom" and "outdoor furniture", not "marine"

You've got me thinking. I might do the same. Bit bored of the white vinyl... Can you let me know how much it is per metre when you get a price?

It seems increbibly durable. They say you can clean it with bleach, acetone, dishwasher powder... It seems you can get any stain out of it. http://www.sunbrella.com/eu/en/downloads/StainChart.pdf
The drawback is you have to go thru a process of removing the stain, rahter than just wiping the gunk off as you do with vinyl. Still, all that can be done by the ground support team when you're not on the boat houghn...

I have sunbrella (ex factory) and think is fab stuff. Cockpit and flybridge too.

Alway quick to dry and looks as good as new, the teak at home has same and its much older and still excellent. Mine is blue which does show salt if you get spray but a wet leather off and back to normal.

In this months Boat International, which I glanced at last night, has an ad for this type of fabric - I will look later and pop the detail on here once I reach the boat tonite!

I think the price per metre of the fabric is largely irrelevant compared to the cost of having it cut, sewn and fitted, especially in SoF. I'm shipping all the cushions back to the UK and having it done here by a contractor I know and trust at about 20% of the cost (seriously).

I'll let you know the quote for the work from UK supplier, I already sent you a mail earlier about transport back to UK, so i'm sure they'd be happy to do two..

:-) Actually I'm not. I once tried to buy something that was worht £500-ish and the seller refused to deal with me cos I had no feedback. Well how the hell are you supposed to have feedback if you're a newbie? Seems a bit closed shop!

I found those links on google. Houghn has got me thinking about sunbrella-ing my flybridge too. I'm not normally one for keeping up with the neighbours but he is berhted literally right next door to me and just bought a flashier Antibes car than my Antibes car, so I might have to make an exception this time ... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think this is a good plan. Lots of white vinyl is a bit tired these days and too blimmin bright for my eyes as well.

We're having charcoal Sunbrella in the cockpit which is going to be warmer than a lighter shade but looks simply stunning on a black/grey hulled boat. Only disadvantage with Sunbrella is it looks a bit baggy on large flat areas which is why we're staying with grey vinyl for our foredeck sunpad. That and this area is the most likely to get covered in suncream and probably quite a few other things too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Won't the charcoal sunbrella get a bit hot in the med sun?

I think you'll have to have your foredeck cushions scrubbed down with swarfega before I go anywhere near them after that comment .. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Well, we took advice from Sunseeker owners regarding charcoal and yes, it does get warmer, but not as bad as you think and is mainly sheltered by the awning.

Regarding my foredeck cushions, it is a heavy burden being a Love God sometimes but I guess it was just meant to be /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Here's a pic of my Antibes car. i love it. It is a styling work of art and does exactly what it says on the tin. Houghn's has a considerably larger load capacity but I'm sworn to secrecy so can't tell you the make/model. I can tell you though that he wrote in an email to me when he bought it "Good job I'm keeping it in a foregin country so my mates don't find out"
