[/ATTACH]IMG_0236.JPG IMG_0237.JPGIMG_0238.JPG Hello I installed a new genoa track recently and access from the inside is not easy but got mostly there. I use a Vortex Socket set for jobs like this as it can handle long bolts as it is hollow. Some nuts are very difficult to tighten because of access what I really need is a foot long extension bar for a vortex socket set but these do not seem to exist. What I was thinking of was getting hold of another extension bar and cutting it welding a piece of metal to make it long enough. I can not find an extension bar maybe Halfords will sell one. So has anyone got a suggestion that can use a hollow 8mm socket with a 300mm(ish) extension bar or where to find a long Vortex extension bar. Open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help.

The Halfords Vortex Set seems to cine in either 1/4" and 3/8" Square drive set or 1/2" Square drive set.

Measure the square drive then go to any local tool shop and by an extension of the same square drive

I have 3 300mm long 3/4 " square drive extensions fitted together to access some big bolts on my boat.

I don't understand why you just can't us a small 1/4 inch drive socket set with a long 8mm socket and whatever length of wobble extension bar/s that you need?

I have 1/4 inch drive wobble bars from about 1 inch to 1 foot in 1 inch steps. Readily available on line. :)

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately it is not a conventional connection that is the problem But a long 8mm socket on a convential system would probably work.IMG_0239.JPG

Buy what you need to do the job. Deep sockets are readily available if you need them.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you but I don't understand why you need to use longer bolts than necessary for a genoa track. If you are left with a lot of exposed thread then the bolts are too long.

Yes a bit long but incredibly difficult to get the nut on anything shorter, access is very difficult.

If use use a shorter bolt and access is difficulte use a short socket then pop a nut or 2 into the socket then offer up the socket on an extension to the bolt then screw the nut onto the bolt finger tight the use the ratchet to tighten the nut.

I have lots of nuts bolting down items on to the deck up a tube in 50mm of insulation from the inside of the boat.
