Anyone read about the boat explosion in todays Times?
It seems a gas leak was ignited by a spark from a football shirt at Ilfracombe harbour. The lad wearing it suffered 45% burns and his father was airlifted to a hospital burns unit. The explosion blew the catamaran in half. I recommend that nylon shirts are barred by us boaters (and keep a check on gas cylinders)

could be - makes you think about spontaneous combustion - I`ve already discarded my nylon & lycra thong when boating !

Gas detectors

hi all
i was in Ilfracoombe on Sunday, and met up with a yottie who is berthed 3 boats away from me in Swansea, he was at the scene when the explosion happened and rowed across to help rescue the injured, he was pretty shaken up over the explosion particularly as the boat was moored next to his. The boat was towed out of the harbour until the fire brigade deemed it safe to tow it back in, surprisingly enough it did not catch fire, it looked in pretty good shape considering the force of the explosion, this serious accident should be a warning to us all, have you got a gas detector fitted?? when was the last time you tested it?
i fitted a new one first thing on Monday !
this serious accident could have been prevented , but then we can all say that with foresight, and i wish the family concerned a speedy recovery
