Right, got the day skipper practical with my wife last week but we both feel we now need to get some miles under our belts. We paln to charter late summer but would like to be able to sail before then. We live in the mid west of ireland about 2 hours from Cork and three from Dublin. Can anybody suggest some opportunities. We have a a nice old timber motor cruiser (Rampart 32) on the inland waterways if anybody is interested in exploring some sort of swap.

Have you had a look at Bangor Week website?

Plenty of boats - sometimes a crewing opportunity

racing requirement

1. Sit on the highest part of the deck at all times

2. Don't wince or comment on any swear words used by skipper or other crew.

3 When anything or anyone else is referred to as a !$$~!!! !!~!%, nod in agreement, possibly muttering "bastard!" and shaking head in mutual crewlike support.

4. Don't complain about anything at all

5. Buy the first round at the bar at least.

this is the advanced course, actually.

Hi Joe,
that was quick!
You do not mention, but I assume that your "barn"
is near to the home of the Galway Hookers
I am sure these old workboats will be familiar
to others on these forums as there have been several
articles in the yachting press as well as specialist books.

Joe, I will be in touch later regarding a possible
trip to Ireland. Happy sailing

Regards Briani

Re: racing requirement

6. Try not to grimace when the chap sitting next to you on the rail discusses having to "heave" inside his jumper

7. Pray that no-one will ask you to do the running backstays

(never but never again will I go out on a racing boat!)
