Expensive and very good antifoul? Which one? JFM - I think you mentioned it?

A while ago I read some comment on here about one particular antifoul that is expensive but very good, I thought its name was a number, like GT99 or some such.

I'm sure I recall JFM mentioning it on someone else's thread.

Any idea?

Originally, it was Micron 66
Now the product is called Micron 77
From International

Incidentally, I bought some Micron 66 and had a terrible experience with it.
The main reason for switching to Coppercoat.

The Micron 66 all started peeling off after a season so the whole hull needed stripping back to bare gel coat
Once stripped, we took the advantage of Coppercoat - seemed an obvious decision whilst the boat was bare gelcoat.

We had a bad experience with Micron 66 though.
We had the last batch so maybe International knew they had a problem - shame they didn't tell me.

I believe that Micron 77 is better though.

Ben

We had great results with International Inter-speed Ultra, hard antifoul for a few years of Hamble dwelling. You lift Play Time every year.... I would have thought that would have been good to use.

Although having said that I have switched this year to International Cruiser Uno to try and halt the A/F build-up...and its good for 26knots and at £59 for 3litres.... (Pacermarine) its good value and a load of folk have said its good stuff...

Hmm.

I used Trilux for years because I had some dented cans cheap.

Then I tried Teamac 'tropical killer' which was hopeless despite the name.

Last year I used Seajet shogun which I think must have had plant food in it.

I see the Micron 77 is 5ltr cans only, I need only about 2 ltrs, I supposed I could double coat.

Maybe I'll try the Interspeed Ultra.

If she doesn't sell I might finally go back to bare wood on the hull next year in which case its all going on the floor.

MBY April issue have a very good report of the "Cheap" antifould they used on Blue Fin last year.
Pics and report looked very good to me.
Unfortunately I dont have a copy handy at the mo, so cant be specific. Worth a look though.

Cough cough, it was MBM. It was Seajet Samurai which performed very well, including about three of the warmest months lying mostly stationary on the Hamble.

Thanks for correction to MBM. Will pay more attention to which mag I am reading next time. Have been paying attention to boats being lifted from river Orwell in Ipswich over the past few months and fouling does not appear to be too severe, mostly a slime coating for boats being in for 12 months. Must be to do with the lack of sunshine last year!
Am following with interest as I will be anti fouling my 43 foot Princess 430 shortly. Any ideas what quantity of anti foul is required, allowing for 2 coats?

4 tins should be enough

Another vote for international cruiser uno from me. I have used it for the last 3 seasons in Plymouth and generally had far superior results to neighbours despite only applying one coat. It actually does do what it says on the tin......

The one I mentioned was micron 66, later replaced by 77. I think it's fab and always use it. Never had hurricanes peel off problem. I've posted pics of its performance on here and have never seen other pics as good. As everyone knows though, you get lots of opinions on this topic!

We never got on with the Cruiser Uno, although the marine growth looked like it did!!

We have since very successfully switched to Premier Paints Premier 1 can with excellent results. Very reasonably priced as well.
