Expandable Hose?

good point. I dont use my tank for drinking water anyway, just washing. but then again is a normal hose pipe better?

We've got one similar to this: http://leisurelines.net/20m-compact-cassette-filling-hose-315-p.asp (can't remember where we bought ours). We disposed of the cassette and just have it stowed in the Swim platform locker. Takes up very little space. Perfect.

That's the one I've got. The cassette is a bit flimsy and it's nigh on impossible to get all the water out when you roll it up. Having said that it's streets ahead of anything else we've tried, most of which were only suitable for filling the vacant space in a rubbish bin.

I use a green expandable hose no problems at all beware some of the fittings can be a bit cheap, there is no water left in when empty as the core is like a silicone tube that expands under pressure then contracts when empty. the wrinkley bit on the outside is just a sleeve,i got a 75ft hose for £15 at ingoldmells market

I absolutely love these expandable hoses! I bought mine from SIBS the year before last and have had no problems with it, even with very high water pressures in some Italian marinas. I've tried the flat hoses, but they always kink, and conventional hoses are just too awkward to coil, uncoil and store. In the med the ports seldom provide hoses, so you always have to use your own.

The expandable hoses never kink, don't get caught up in knots, and can just be gathered up and thrown in a locker rather than having to coil it.

My only advice is get one longer than you think you need, as they do retract quite a bit due to pressure drop when water is flowing

Thanks all! my impression with the flat pipe is that it will kink too easily? I have had the expandable one before, but im just wondering if i had a dodgey one, or if they normally bust! i wasnt being heavy handed!!

New one ordered, as to be fair it was perfect, scrunch it up and stow in no room at all!!

just hope it lasts a little longer this time!

How do you keep it tidy, or have you got a ball of blue spaghetti :)

OMG Nooo!!! (I don't do tangles...EVER!! lol) I just loop it up the same way as you would the mooring lines and just lay it flat in the locker. Simple, no mess, no wasted space.

I was advised not to leave them for long periods under pressure, so use them then turn off the tap and let some water out.

unf'inbelievable!

I wrote the above earlier today, and had a phone call this evening from a friend in Antibes who kindly went to wash my boat down that the hose has split!

I blame you wofforduk !! :D

(I still think they're great though, and even if I have to buy a new one every year that's a small price to pay)

I just haul mine up the mast with the spin halliard and it empties in seconds. Whoops, sorry :o just realised where I was!
