Hi folks happy new year to you.
I have been doing a few jobs on the boat and wanted to move the hose that the exhaust water comes out of,the hose leaves the engine and goes into a grey vetus silencer and then leaves via another hose and then through what i assume is a water trap?and then out of the boat.I have had to move the silencer up about a ft as to avoid more pipe work etc and as a result is above the engine about a ft is this a problem or if the water flows normally is that OK. cheers.:)

Second box would normally be a muffler
Look at the vetus on line catalogue to find acceptable hights but lifting the muffler that much does not seem acceptable

That sounds wrong. The water trap should be the first item. Most boats do not have a second muffler, but it is usually part way between the water trap and the outlet.

As suggested the Vetus catalogue has schematics of exhaust systems with minimum dimensions.

Whether it's a silencer (unlikely) or trap, the first box mustn't be above the engine, otherwise water can flow back down the hill.
The trap is designed to collect and hold all water that may be in the system when the engine is stopped, and must have a capacity at least equal to that of all the other exhaust components. Everything must be able to drain down into it.
