Exhaust outlet shut-off valve

I have a totally corroded "knob" on a jammed gate-valve on the exhaust outlet. No way to shut-off and all attempts to remove said valve have failed due to advanced corrosion and lack of "elbow-space"; so it's skin-fitting removal and complete replacement.

My question is what type of valve/fitting should I replace it with, if any?

Exhaust is above water-line, with expansion-box(? correct terminology?) and a suitably looped pipe to prevent back-filling.

Should be no need for a valve if you have a good loop. Use a proper fitting such as the Vetus one.

I fitted a large ball valve in DZR with a stainless 'ball'. It seems to do the job, although I can only imagine closing it in storm/survival conditions...

+1. Why is a valve needed unless you are going to be out for weeks on end and away from landfall if caught in a storm? If it is corroded in the open position and it's just the moving part ie not the bit attached to the hull that's corroded, you could consider just leaving it. Maybe grind the internal out to ensure it doesnt cause back pressure?

I had wondered if I really need it to be operable. So, I think I'll leave well alone (and save myself some money and a lot of hassle!)
The exhaust is working ok at the moment; and I certainly don't intend to be away at sea for weeks - although I intend to "coast-hop" down to Fairlie for the Fife Regatta in June/July.
