What's the difference between the exhaust hose here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Convoluted-Ru...cessories_SM&hash=item2a095be2bd#ht_500wt_922

and the Vetus exhaust hose I can buy for £45/metre?

I am not convinced its just a matter of the Vetus stuff being a rip off price where I have seen it - I just don't see how the stuff on e-bay can be quite so cheap and of the same quality? Or is it really a bargain, and I will gnash my teeth for paying out so much money for 6 metres of the stuff?

How many times do you ever buy exhaust hose? I wouldn't buy anything other than Vetus, the others may or may not be OK but why bother?

The stuff I bought from them over the counter had Lloyds approved all along the hose, and is as tough as the Vetus it replaced. Fitted like a glove, couldn't find a problem.

Why not phone them up and ask ... http://www.leighbaxter.com

I needed a new stop solenoid for my Yanmar. From Yanmar it cost several hundreds of pounds. When it arrived it was stamped made by Bosch with a product code. I googled and found a diesel engine parts supplier who had the identical item for £50. Send the Yanmar back and got most refunded. Moral of the story? Multiple handling charges (Bosch -> Japanese Yanmar -> UK Yanmar -> Chandlery) can bump up prices. So if the hose is Lloyds approved then it may be the same as the Vetus hose.

I would certainly look around for cost effective hoses for the boat, but I would not cut corners. Had two exhaust hoses break during use and a complete nightmare: water, fumes and black soot. Live and learn I suppose.
